Hi. I’ve just upgraded my GFX to a RTX3060TI. My processor seems to be running more than the GFX. So im needing to
Upgrade my processor. Any ideas which would be best with my GFX? Specs below
CPU: A406 - Intel Core i7 4790
Motherboard: 4247 - Asus Z97-P
RAM: C212 - 16GB Corsair 2400mhz Vengeance Pro (2x8GB
PSU: K607 - 750W FSP
Monitors: M210 - Asus 24" VG248QE 144Hz Gaming LED

I will be upgrading my monitor to a 27” 1440p. Will that improve the bottleneck?

6 core/12 thread is base level for modern gaming.
But along with CPU also motherboard and memory need replacing.

Increasing monitor resolution puts more load on GPU, because of more pixels to render per frame.

Yep! Going 1440p will take the strain off your cpu, but if you can nab a £150 11400F your new gpu will perform better. Its balancing it off against cost of new cpu/mobo/RAM, so £300+.

The monitor arrives tomorrow so i will test it. I don’t really want to change mobo if possible. I will change processor if needed. But which one would fit my current motherboard?

Since you already have one of the best CPUs for the socket you would have to change the motherboard and the ram to something modern for a noticeable improvement but see how you get on with the monitor first.

There is only one cpu for your motherboard that's better than what you already have and that's the 4790k. It would be a pointless waste of money going from a 4790 to a 4790k so for any cpu upgrade you will have to change the motherboard as new cpu's use a different socket and on top of that you will need DDR4 memory.

Excellent thanks all, now I have the monitor set up and running at 1440p all games are running smooth as can be as its now using more of the GFX. Mobo/processor now not as urgent, but could look to upgrade in the future. thanks again

Lol, they include 10100 to give a base line.. a CPU that is not affected.

Its not the CPU that is affected. The issue is how Nvidia’s cards affects the CPU not the other way around.

If I fitted a RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 to my system in sig I’d lose graphics performance over the RX 5700XT.

I know how they spin it.

Your CPU isn't fast enough to drive the GPU in CPU bound situation.. low IPC. 10100 is 4 cores, 6 is recommended for 3070 and 3090.
