Processors - differences between OEM & Others (Intel)

Well yes, but the OEM HS is a nono for overclocking and can get noisy, plus the likelyhood of cpu death is verrrry remote. Though for a tenner i won't complain lol, still i'd rather use it to buy some good TIM :p

Always get retail. Enough said. sacrificing 2 years of warranty to save you about 5% of the total price makes you have to ask yourself, Is it really worth it? XD

I have built about 5 PC's for myself in the last 10 years and have only once bought retail. The rest have been OEM. I have never once had a chip fail and they have all gone on to eBay once retired.

But as you say; for the sake of a tenner. However when ordering a complete new system these extra tenners here and there build up.

:P Plus if you get OEM it doesn't come in a fancy box which makes all the difference!! =)

No fancy box  What the hell are they trying to pull!

Yeah I guess thats true but just for peace of mind I will stick to Retail from now on!

Most importantly, with the retail version you get a shiny Intel sticker to put on your system!

I don't really consider the warranty situation, never had to return one under warranty. Got an OEM Q6600 from OCUK back in 2007 & overclocked it for 4 years until I sold it last week, it ran perfectly.

Went for the retail 2500k this time round but only because it was cheaper elsewhere.
