I have an exam coming up for this professionalism module im studying, and one the practise questions the lecturer gave us was:

Critically discuss the relationship between computer ethics and professional practise in computing.

How would you go about answering this..?! what would you talk about?
Other than mentioning the BCS or ACM isnt it all your own opinions?!

that's not a fair question - you can't truly understand how unethical everything is, and how much stuff is manipulated (because it can be) to look better or how much people are ripped off and rushed without a bit of actual experience, imo. it's the sort of thing that's so ludicrous, if it was written in a book you'd think it was fiction

Oh I had this module in uni, what a complete and utter load of male genatalia

Isn't it!! Im really just confused as to how to answer questions. I have a feeling this module is going to pull my final mark right down!

My MD asked me to sabotage a customers server so he could sell him a new one.

Give me a mo' i'll ask him his thoughts about ethics in IT.

lol, what course you on? Iv got this exam on wednesday too at northumbria. Did you get the yellow printed out module handbook thing?
**edit**
Its not all BS, its just generally about whats right and wrong, and fair enough a lot are just simple morals and opinions but you must express them in educated manner etc, so iv basically failed.

Im on computing studies, northumbria uni, exam on wednesday! Yeah got the handbook, but looking over the lecture slides...they just dont really say much at all. In the mock exam notes, it was stated that if you put in some quotes it will help!

I had the exact same module and coursework last semester. We had to do a 1500 word report. I ended up with an A18. All I did was talk about some ACM and BCS codes (And some others) and how they relate to my field of computing. I also talked about how some of those codes related to my honours project.

im doing MMDE, yea exam wed, iv got the handbook but only went to 2 or 3 lectures, by the time he'd stop blabbering i was nodding off and didnt hear the meaningful stuff so decided to use the time more wisely. Iv not looked over slides yet but yea quotes will help a lot, you kinda just string answers together, didnt even know there was a mock exam till it had been but i was unable to attend then anyway due to other commitments, sucky really.
Its either going to be a hit or miss exam rly.

I was the same, went to all of 3 lectures. Most people i no did the same. Good luck in the exam :)

Discuss each topic you covered in the module:
Hacking
Copyright
Data protection act
Accessibility
Intellectual property
etc
etc
etc

holy thread revival, forgot to post after exam but we'v got results now, how did you do OP?
I got 52, pretty funny with a few hours revision, aload of people got 40s I know, the results seemed wierd.. the people who went and got all the books out library and read up and attended everything didnt get particulaly good marks, one who really prepared for instance only got 55%
