Program Files

Hello,
I'm looking to do a reinstall of Windows in a few weeks jsut to keep things tidy and remove a bit of junk.

When I install programs am I allow to force them to all install into "Program Files" rather than in "Program Files" or "Program Files x86" if they choose?

Will it upset anything if I tell them to all install in "Program Files"

I know that one is for 32 and one for 64 but it doesn;t seem to work like that.

I install iTunes yerday, 64 bit version and it put it in the x86 folder.

It doesn't matter iirc where it installs. It just does that to help maybe i guess

As you said itunes which is the 64bit version goes to the x86 folder. a lot of my other programs also do that so

You could install anything to a completely different HDD if you wanted to, so making everything go into the one folder shouldn't be an issue.

Not ever seen any real reason for the two folders other than to simply separate the 32- and 64- bit apps. iTunes is just "special" [read: retarded].

The 64-bit iTunes isn't actually 64-bit anyway, it's still a 32-bit process but the installer probably needs to deal with the 64-bit kernel which is why the 32-bit installer doesn't work in x64.

No real reason, just a handy way to separate the two sets into two different program files folders.

and yes, iTunes is very very "special"
