Hi,
I am looking to find out exactly what hardware is in my friends system and what type of slots are on the motherboard.

Is there a program I can download and run that will tell me what is installed, speeds, and what is on the motherboard (type and number of expansion slots etc..)

I need to know what type of motherboard it is and how much emory it can hold (PC is about 7 yers old and currently has 512mb).

For the memory you could use the crucial scanning tool. Its pretty easy to find on their website and scans your computer and recommends the best memory upgrade. Good if you dont know what you need/can use.

I've always liked SIW, it's just one exe and it picks up a lot. I tried everest quickly, it couldn't tell me what motherboard I have and could only tell me total memory. SIW can tell me what model number my motherboard is, it can tell me, per slot, what part number of memory I have installed.
Give it a try and it's free too

Edit: It also has a system slot view which shows you each slot, tells you what it is (PCI, PCI Express plus what type of PCI Express)
