Program to check

Is there a program out there that is used to check what is accessing the HDD? My HDD lit seems busy most of the time, and I was wondering what is accessing it or making it busy.

Firstly have you checked that it's not the indexing service that's reading the disk (right click on the disk in My Computer and pick properties, there's a check box for indexing).

What OS are you using? Vista has a habit of thrashing the disk after boot to fill the superfetch cache, it also has the Performance and Reliability Monitor in the performance section of control panel which will give you an idea of what's using the disk.
