Program to record on screen acitivty?

What program would be best for this? I tried fraps but it records uncompressed effectivley crippling the computer and making the whole point of recording the video pointless. :rolleyes:

have a look at Windows Media Encoder, its free and can do that kind of thing, not sure it would work in games though.
