Id say XNA as well, C# is a pretty "easy" language to start, Get some sprites on the screen moving & collision is a great motivator to learn more advanced parts of the language. There is some very good tutorials on youtube & even microsoft have a like spaceship style starter game, Which runs you through all the different functions of XNA.
