I agree. Although I don't know Java I opened someday some source code files and they seemed to me C#.
That's pretty much what I did. I knew C# first and when I started Java I just knew it already because it was so similar.

I'd reccommend having a stab at visual basic and then moving on to ASP.NET. Some great tutorial videos on the official site (http://www.asp.net/learn) and you won't need hosting as it just runs on your machine.

VB.NET right? People should be more clear about what they mean as there's a world of difference between VB6 and VB.NET :/
