Movie IntroProject: Angel

I'm still on the lookout for a watercooling sponsor so if you feel you can contribute email me at Richard at overclock3d dot net.

Time for a new project me thinks. The base of this project will be a Mountainmods Ascension, powdercoated in Sky White - soon to be reviewed at Overclock3d. It will then form the chassis for Project: Angel. The case is in the process of being built by the guys in US of A and should be powdercoated this week.

The colour theme I will try and stick to will be White/Blue, matching both the motherboard and the ram I already have.

I'm still in the planning stages of this but here's the spec accumulated so far:

Hardware

Intel i7 920
Gigabyte EX-58 UD5
2x6GB (12GB) Patriot Viper DDR3
Asus Xonar DX
2xGTX280
3x Samsung F1 1TB (3TB total)
Silverstone Strider 1KW

Watercooling

2x DDC Ultra 18w + XSPC tops
2x Thermochill PA 120.3

Spec will be added to as I go along:).

For this log I plan on doing the basic picture + text log and finish off with a video blog of the build.

I'll update the thread as and when new bits arrive and a progress of the mods I hope to do.

Let's get it on...:)

EDIT....

Well the case is still in the US, getting powdercoated so it will be a while before I see that, especially if Customs have anything to do with it.

Still, it will give me some time do crack on with a few mods;). Waiting for shiny new kit is just half the fun.

nice - look forward to it!

did you sell you previous case (black ice was it?)?

Yeah, no matter what I did I just couldn't get on with a 'normal' tower case. I got a decent offer for the case and I get bored easily so decided to sell it on.

Ascension is the win!

Also interested in how you get on with that RAM, as its what im looking to use in my i7 setup as well :)

The ram is very good, especially for the price, here's what I got when I reviewed it:

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, rest assured this build is certainly gonna be completed but as a lot of parts are going to be imported it's just gonna take a little time.

damn you w3bbo and your fantastic hardware :D

keeping an eye on this - love mountain mods with a passion - glad to see you aren't putting all that lovely hardware in a thermaltake mozart ;)

i did the ocuk review when we got the patriot ram in - the timings just kept on going down! will look brilliant in the ud5

Must say they do match the UD5 perfectly, but I'm not content with that so I plan on modding them ever so slightly ;).

I hear ya about the Mozart, I'd rather stick a spoon in my eye than use one of them lol (no offence locky!).

I have nothing against tower cases but spending £200+ on a case that loads of other people have is not my thing, I like a little exclusivity. The TJ07/V2000 are fantastic cases, many people buy them and rightly so, no argument there but I feel they've been 'done to death' now.

The MM series of cases are not everyones cup of tea, I don't think they could ever be classed in the same league as Silverstone or LianLI for style but thats not what MM are aiming for (at least I don't think so). The MM cases are industrial in looks, a look I personally prefer and something I can work with and improve upon. It's akin to buying a 'paint buy numbers' or a blank canvas. A lot of cases these days are so similar it's hard to put your own touches on them to make them stand out from the crowd. I prefer a blank canvas to work from ;).

I just prefer something a little more 'individual', something different for better or worse.

The Angel theme will be carried through the build I hope but within reason. I'm not going for a religious theme if that's what you are asking. It's more about colour, form, a few little touches that are in keeping with the theme as it were.

Thanks w3bbo - I didn't think you were creating an ecclesiastical case - just thought you might take the Greek/Hebrew translation of angel - meaning messenger - a bit further. Like some temp displays or a led screen, that sort of thing.

Ssshhh lol, you wern't supposed to know that lol. I have a GX typhoon display I will be using ;).

I was undecided tbh. I like the Eagles but it meant spraying the black surrounds which would have been a royal PITA. Coolink do a nice blue fan and clear frame, a bit brighter than the Akasa ones which were tempting. My other option was the old favourate Yateloon SL-12's with blue LED's but the rumours are that these aint really Yate loons, just a cheaper imitation.

Then I saw the Enermax Clusters and the rest was history. White frame, white LED's (which can be turned off if needed) white cabling etc. All this meant that these were the fans for me.

Here's a few shots of some of the hardware that I will be using:

I don't normally go for Gigabytes but the UD5 impressed me a lot when I sampled it and it matches the theme of the build.

Gotta say this Patriot ram is lush and perfectly matches the mobo...but I have a few extra mods planned for it yet:p

More to come soon (I hope!).

Update

Little update, just got a mail from MountainMods:
Hi Richard,

The parts were picked up yesterday from powder.
I’ll work this weekend and get the thing airborne beginning of next week.

Cheers,

Mountain Mods

Result!:D

Now to battle with the import taxation.

1. Depends what equipment you have. When I first started out I took pics in a bath and simply altered the exposure as required. I have a white room now which makes things much easier:).

2. Not 'my' webiste - I most of the component reviews for them.

Looks great w3bbo!

Think the colour combo of the mobo and ram is awesome!!! :cool:I know it's of topic but do have a pic of this?

Looking for something similar myself. :)

gt

All you would see is white lol. It's just a box room, painted white, with a white desk area, soon to become my PC room - nothing special at all really but it reflects the light well.

Minor update. A box from Germany arrived the other day and no guesses which manufacturer sent it:
