Project C.A.R.S on 4 Titans and 3 4K screens

Shame there's no A.I yet. I'll probably give in this weekend. Been a long time since a race sim made me go 'wow'.

I only ever really play them for the modifications though these days :D. "Wonder what a Twingo feels like with 250BHP :D"

thing is with this 4k malarkey avg joe aint gunna buy it it will be like 3d all over again a dead duck in the water unless avg man can afford it.

You could have said same thing about 1080P when 720P was mainstream, it's hard to even find a 720P TV nowadays. Higher resolution is a natural progression 3D is not.

As a reasonably active pCARS player i'd just like to confirm a few things for you guys.

First off, sadly there is no way of getting the game until release any more. It was fully funded so signups closed a long time ago. There might be a beta test of it sometime nearer release but if not then the devs are aiming to release by November this year.

Another thing that you will probably realise is that, because the game is still a long way from release, there has been very little optimisation done to the game so far, so while I dnt know what FPS its running at there, I'm sure it will run a lot better at release.

Also, the game is by no means "broken" as dg put it, but there are some aspects that need improving, which is to be expected considering how far away it is from release. I would be incredibly surprised if these issues aren't fixed by release, especially judging by how quickly the devs are addressing the issues that Ben Collins, Olli Webb, Nic Hamilton and the pCARS community in general are picking up during their testing.

Sadly I haven't played either iRacing or Assetto Corsa so I really can't compare the games, but pCARS certainly feels great to me (a damned sight better than Forza and Gran Turismo thats for certain). I'm sure that exactly the same could be said for Assetto Corsa and iRacing, in that they feel great and have their own little faults.

Lastly, I saw someone looking for a cheapish wheel to try some racing games on and I would definitely agree that the logitech DFGT is definitely the best of the low end wheels, with the logitech G25 and G27 being the next wheels up from that which are worth getting, the latter being what I use

DFGT best cheap wheel second hand about 40-50 new from about 80 quid

Maybe I should have looked on the bay, but new I couldn't find anything less than 140, and I got mine 2nd hand for 75 recently.

Much better than the speeding carbon gt I recently got for 55 new.....

I have to agree, even though I haven't played the Assetto Corsa game, Pcars is coming on just fine with near daily updates and its nowhere near at beta stage yet. I am looking forward to it, it can't be broke yet either as its still being built :)

Looked on the bay and you got a deal. These things sell for loads, even second hand.

Should be some AI available on the 17th next Friday in the special events section of the game.

@ Gregster: AC is stunning in 3D. Jump in the P4/5, hit the ctrl and F5 keys to set the 3D cockpit to your liking, my first thought was I was in the cockpit of a starfighter lol, you'll see what I mean when you give it a go.

Looks like I will have to get it then :D

Ah dammit, no one told me there would be 3d, another £30 gone then, I had this in my basket during the steam sale and thought better of it too :(

I bought into PCARS a long time ago and have watched as month after month the graphics and content have improved while the physics have remained at turgid. It is a beautiful looking game, and I use the term game deliberately because as far as physics go it's a joke and it renders it well short of "sim".

Anyone who thinks PCARS has accurate physics should go jump in the Lotus 49 with "pro" setting selected. No aids, no traction control or stability control etc. I can apply full throttle from standstill on a joypad button and the car just tracks perfectly straight ahead like a train on rails.

Now go try the same thing in rFactor2 or Assetto Corsa, or the old classig GPL. Your car will end up totally out of control instantly.

In short, Assetto Corsa is far better.

Some Assetto Corsa screenies, 2880x1620 downsampled to 1920x1080, with maximum AA and AF applied on top

These settings only pulled around 60% usage from a single 780 @ 1000/6000, stunning and none too demanding, win.

*Note downsampling is slightly broken as the counter bar appears half way up the screen rather then down the bottom, this may be due to the none-standard resolution used.

Assetto Corsa is very good sim but its still beta and has no multiplayer yet so you can only hotlap on your own.

Physic and gfx all very good and its cheap which is always nice.

If you want to race others online the best sim is Iracing but that isn't cheap with its subscription and then having to buy cars and tracks but as online racing goes Iracing is the best.

I have both sims and looking forward to AC getting multiplayer and more cars and tracks.

Heres a video you might like about Greger Huttu the worlds fastest alien and how he did when he tried a real race car.

just to add one of my fav car sim racers and tuff to beat RBR (richard burns rally ) has had another update to 2014. base game is only 4 to 5 quid but the amount of mods make this one of the must own racers especially if you have a wheel.

such a brutal game but also awesome :D assetto is doing some stuff from rbr at moment ;)
