I wanted to do something nice for my Dad, I was going to just give him money but the last few times I talked to him we talked about him getting a new PC but he didn't really have the money for it. As it was his birthday coming up I thought this would be a great idea.
So I scoured the members market for cheap components and set about making him something that would blow his socks off
His current PC is an Acer desktop with a triple core phenom and onboard graphics, he's had it for 3 or 4 years.
FINAL PICS HERE.
Here's most of the stuff, I neglected to include the msi 280x gaming OC edition but it's there somewhere.
Toolbox at the ready.
First up I removed that ugly HDD bracket and fitted the 92mm fan in the back. Then installed the PSU and a 1TB HDD.
Installing the spectre pro the the nero cooler took a little doing as I originally bought the spectre to go on an AIO cooler it, the mounting holes are reinforced to I had to jam the metal connectors around the back of the pipes, it's solid as a rock now.
Even with the spectre it's only a tad bigger than the crappy retail heatsink, with the bundled fan it's probably exactly the same height.
Next up everything goes in the motherboard, including the avexir led ram and FX 6300.
The little dab of paste.
Very little clearance from the ram!
Everything in and posting!
Next it got a Blu-Ray drive transplant from my pc, I don't use it for games or video anymore. I'm surprised how well this drive fits with the fractal's look.
Windows now installing, a lot of cable management still to go, but we'll wait till it all gets working!
Next up I found out that the hiper PSU was not up to the task of powering the 280x it was whining and grunting and graphical corruption all over in unigine heaven. I got a 750w toughpower from gumtree, I should have taken a picture of it as it was so full of dust and from a smoking household. I gave it a good clean and replaced the noisy fan.
Next up was the window I didn't take a lot of photos of this but it sits on with velcro and I taped around the edges with electrical tape which has actually stuck pretty well.
Next up I set about making the Core 1000 look a little more unique.
A lovely blue coat of paint and I removed the plastic mesh from in front of the fan as it was visibly annoying! So here's where I'm at now. I'm just waiting on some cable ties to tidy up inside, a y splitter to get the front fan running and I'll be getting a little more black acrylic to cover up the mess of wires and PSU at the top.
