This is my physics project :p

Get a golf ball as far as you can :p
me and some chums, went for an air cannon, so i asked my dad, for an air tank, and he comes back with an air tank which are used on airliners for storing emergency air, they are rated at 3000psi, which is good and safe, we were aiming for 60-100psi. We saw in the interwebs that a man made one and took it up to 95psi, he got something to travel over 2 football field widths (about 200ft :eek: )

At 100psi it fired the golf ball over 100meters.

lmao at this thread, errr, i haven't managed to got the tube on yet, it need welding, and im no good at it, so i shall get my dad to do that, although, i did pump the air tank up to 40psi in 5 mins, and it makes a loud noise when its all released :D will get pics of the tanks and valve attached tomorrow, im on study leave so i have nothing better to do other than shower and get dressed :p
 
thanks, for the above post :) the pipe i have at the moment is slightly too big, i was going to use 2 bits of shaped plastic to keep the ball in the center and make the tube air tight, I'll have a play around with the tube to find the best combo. As for safety measures there aren't any, my dad said he could take it to work and pressure test it, not really sure what that means but its sounds like it makes it safe :p the air canister is rated to 1000psi, valve is 100and something, so its all reasonably safe anyway :rolleyes:

I'll get some pictures today, unless my dad has taken it all to be pressure tested, in which case I'll get the pics later tonight

By the way I'd recommend you fire it into something solid, through a hedge it could end up going through the other side and hitting someone, take the same precautions that you would firing an air rifle or something similar.

are you not aloud to fire an air rifle through a hedge???? :confused:
 
well so far I've only been firing it at 10psi into my hedge, and i did it just now and realized its dark, so no vids till tomorrow, and also I've lost the ball till tomorrow when it is light again :) Also i will probably take it out to the back of the woods, got some big fields so im sure the farmer won't mind :rolleyes:

ooo and also, i pumped it to 50psi, and left it for 2 and a bit hours, came back and it was at 40psi, so not bad for hand turned bolts :)

you could go up to nearly 70bar (~1000psi)

I have 2 scuba diving tanks next to me rated to (and containing air) at 232 bar (~3300 psi). Party at Paddys house ! :D

will get them shortly, as in tomorrow, hmm i figured that the tank is actually rated to 3000psi, i worked that out by reading it on the side of the can :rolleyes: lol

well, we fired it at 60psi, it went about 100ft :D so when we get it up to 100psi should get it pretty damn far

also i shoulder mounted it at 20psi that went quite far also :) and im still alive

I'll upload the vids later/tomorrow
 
bit slow of the marks :p i forgot about this thread regardless of it being in my sig :rolleyes:

we pumped it to 100psi and got the golf ball 115m which is impressive as far as im concerned :) we beat everyone else by a good 40 meters :D
