Had some decent share returns this year earlier than expected, so took the opportunity to put some money into a brand new build. Having always cautiously budgeted in the past on "previous but one" gen kit, it was exciting to be able to throw a little caution to the wind and fully update this time around.

Budget was 6k, but, despite Nvidia's best attempt, still didn't come close to it.

Much haribo was eventually consumed in the delivery of said items...

The eventual spec:

Corsair Professional Series HX 1200W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply
MSI MPG Z690 Force WiFi - Intel Z690 DDR5 ATX Motherboard

Got a bit impatient, and started test fitting/building. CPU arrives at the end of the week

A bit of cable management needed!

I wanted the GPU in a vertical configuration. I haven't seen many 4090's at all in this config at the start, so wasn't sure if it would all fit, thankfully, it does. The RAM, being quite tall, was the biggest concern!

I've ordered a cablemods 12vhpwr cable as the supplied adapter cable into the Corsair cables just creates a horrendous mess. Since the GPU is vertical, i don't need to worry about waiting for a right-angle 12vhpwr cable.

Looking good so far. Always fancied doing a white build but have never started completely from scratch to make it work. Are you planning to watercool at all or stay on air for now?
Here, you can't drop figures like £6k, say you got nowhere near it and then leave us terminally nosey people guessing! ;) :D

I'm only watercooling (with an AIO, in the first screenshot) the CPU. I did consider a full watercooling solution but then decided against it, I didn't really want the maintenance that goes with that.

Cost so far, with a few little bits on their way, around £4,400

The maintenance is easy....you just refill it every time it leaks all over your carpet! :D There'd probably be a lot less of that if I wasn't doing things in a more 'interesting' way
Wow, that'll be why I've not done a totally new build (just a revamp/refit/upgrade etc) for a long time now!

Ah, I see you struck DPD gold there! Some of us had their parts shipped with Royal Fail....just in time to get caught in the strike *facepalm* Still, at least the coffee turned up (just!) before that kicked in....that would have been a DISASTER! :D

Got a bit worried this morning, cpu in, gpu hooked up, everything on, error codes on the motherboard indicating ram/cpu fault. Then realised, since it's a z690 board it probably needed a bios update to recognise the 13700k. Once that was done, all was good, so......

it's alive!
Don't worry, I'll sort the colours soon so it doesn't look like a Unicorn threw up inside it

Similar to my build, how come OCUK shipped your CPU yesterday but mine only got sent out today....

Couple of questions:
How bad would the GPU have been normally mounted? I have the vertical mount ready to panic order tomorrow when my stuff arrives if needed.

How have you got your fans?
I was planning AIO on the side as intake, Bottom in, Top and back out. That way fresh air on the AIO and GPU.
Looking at your photos if the tubes can get past the GPU i should be able to mount them at the bottom of the side as well which was a minor concern.
I went Corsair with the fans to try and keep it all on one system to control.

I'd ordered the vertical mount well beforehand, but it would have been ok normally mounted.

Fan wise, I've got bottom, front as intakes, side, top and back, as exhausts.

Must say i'm impressed with the silence, it's way quieter than i was expecting.

well im wishing i had gone your route with the fans, just spent the last 3 hours building the PC, got everything in and wired up as best i could (that GCard adapter is a total mare).
Fired it up flashed the BIOS, CPU cooler goes weird and flashes a red triangle, Pumps not spinning, fans on that Controller not spinning nothing.
So i ripped it all out checked the cables, swapped the fans around on the other controller, looks like the pump controller is borked. checked it on both USB2 headers, checked it by its self, even tried plugging it into another PC, its ******.
Most annoyingly i bought it back in the summer on a sale from a 3rd party seller so ive got bugger all chance of getting it sorted apart from a long RMA with Corsair.
So tomorrow I'm going cooler shopping and all that good work on cabling those fans will need to be done again. :(

Tried CPU, CPU alt and pump all nothing, believe me I tried every combination it was a fun evening.
I also tried removing my other commander pro in case it was conflicting, and finally i tried installing it on another PC (outside the case) still same thing, Flashing red triangle and no movement from any fans on that controller.

Looks like the little black box is dead.
