Just a thread to showcase the progress of my E39 project following a crash back in September. Read down for pictures etc :

Looks like an E39 5 Series to me. The sill is part of the body skeleton but it looks only cosmetically damaged. You have two options for repair:

a) Filler and repaint
b) Tidy it up and fit the BMW Aerokit sideskirts to cover the damage. But treat the rust first!

I think it is only cosmetically damaged so hopefully the guy I am getting to spray the car will be able to sort it out for me. Sideskirts are an option, but I bet they are damn expensive?

T-Cut?

Seriously, how far are you prepared to go? Cosmetic? Panel replacement?

The whole car is being resprayed as it was an undeclared write off.. So I guess all the way lol

Completely off topic - but how the hell did you ascertain the car from that small pic Fox?

// Edit - OP sorry to hear you ran out of skill dude, glad you're okay though and all the best in fixing the car :)

Fox loves his E39's! Of course Fox.. Only done 60k miles and owned from new. But that's what happens when you go from driving front wheel to rear wheel drive cars.. in my case anyway, especially in the wet.. I have learnt my lesson - the hard way.

Been without it now since the end of August and it's cost me thousands as I didn't go through insurance.. I guess what I am paying now will outweigh me having to declare for the next 5 years.

Yeah I'm fine - had to climb out the window as I was trapped in, and during rush hour.. wasn't particularly fun..

I did a similar thing myself when I first got mine. Didn't manage to leap any barriers though and luckily it was still worth enough to get a full repair at BMW.

Best lesson ever though isn't it :p

Haha, luckily for me I slid into the hedge/over a metal fence (not so lucky) but entered just before the barrier begun - had I have been further up im not sure what theconsequences would have been - either.. there wouldn't have been as much damage but I would have had to pay the council for the ARMCO barrier, or I would have mounted the barrier and flipped the car, consequently trapping me inside.

Best lesson ever.. too bloody right, im now poor, carless and having to get 4 buses a day to/from work regardless of weather! Winter was not particularly fun.. same journey again tomorrow argh..

Nice parking job there! Going to cost a pretty penny to fix though. Just need to back off a little bit more next time!
