having a gf thats into computers is great :D although mine spends too much time on world of warcraft....
 
Very nice, there seems to be a lot of people spraying the insides of their cases black. If done right it looks just as good as powder coated / anodized and is a lot cheaper.
 
Nice case. May have to do mine.

One tip though. Being a spray painter by trade i strongly suggest against using newspaper to mask. The solvent can re-wet the ink on the paper causing it to bleed onto the area you are trying to cover.

I quite fancy doing this myself however i am tempted to go black on the inside and a contrasting colour on the outer. I may even do a pearlescent on the outside which should look good.

You can get a good finish with paint yes, but with the installation of 5.25" bay devices or any dropping of tools on the inside then the paint will flake very easily.

Thanks for that. As I said above, I'd got no idea really :D I'll bare it in mind though as I might be helping paint the inside of another case soon.

Thanks to everyone who said how good it looked! Esp Matt since you inspired the whole thing! I was looking at sending mine off to Tom as well but being a poor student I thought I'd have a bash myself first.

Mekrel: Yeah it does flake quite easily. I've managed to avoid flakes for the most part but I did have to move my dvd drive the other day and you could see where the screws had been. It wasn't too bad and you can't really tell now it's back in though.

you get the same with anodising anyway, if you scratch it you can see the silver alu underneath.

i may be selling my Mozart TX cos im kinda scared i will botch the painting, and it will be ruined, im only 17 and dont want to fork out another 123 quid for another case.
 
painting is pretty easy tbh.. the only thing you need to remember is to spray at a decent distance, very lightly, build up the coats slowly and go left to right to left to right and actually go past the edges of what you're painting.

That way you don't go really heavy at the bit where you change direction.

I was surprised how easy it is.
 
Yeah, what about the mobo stand off holes? do i just spray over them? or will they get clogged with paint, i may nip down hardware store, and get some primer and paint, its standard aluminium so im guessing i dont need to sand it,
 
no, they won't get clogged unless you go way waaaay overboard.

You could always leave the standoffs in? Or mask off that area, you won't be able to see it anyway because it'll be under the mobo.
 
Major thread revival, sorry!

It looks like you didn't bother with any sanding and you got a very good result. Did you literally just go straight at it (after cleaning it) with the primer and then the colour (few layers for each)?

Great result and definitely something I will be doing shortly :)
