Project GreenGasm

It looks great! Is it stable?

I think I might have compatibility issues with my Dominators. I noticed the ones I have, 32GB 3200MHz, are not on the Qualified Vendor List for ASUS R5E10.

So far so good, it's the latest 3200 14-16-16 special edition kit... booted straight into XMP at 1.35v no problem and i've been playing BF1 for the last two hours with no problems.

I'm about to push it to 1t but not going to tweak much more til the weekend.

I don't think either my last kit or this new one are on the QVL because they're too new. Might simply be the same with your kit... any kit rated at 3200MHz or less will work with this motherboard no problem... it's only higher kits that could have issues, but then you just downclock them to 3200/3400

I was just going to post "That red ram though...." and then you replaced it :D

Love it.

Thanks :)

Looking nice. Like the white to purple on the cable sleeving.
A black version of the Platform Dom's? But people will think manufacturers are starting to listen to what people want! ;) Nice timings on that kit too.
If you are going to straighten the res, I can recommend a Dremel with a double-cut tungsten carbide bit to turn the hole into a slot...cos obviously I got all my holes bang-on in the right place! *cough*
Does create some swarf though. You SHOULD remove everything from the case and then thoroughly hoover it so nothing shorts out expensive things. I got away with masking-taping a plastic coffee cup lid over the hole and using masking tape like a wall with the sticky side facing the hole and then hoovering thoroughly...but this is clearly risky, irresponsible and shouldn't be done :D

Thanks :)

Yeah - the black plat doms with the white lights are what made me want them :) Glad they didn't just release the chrome edition.

Good tip for the hole, thanks... I'll get round to that whenever I next change the fluid. It's a little annoying but not enough to constantly **** me off :)

With XMP I thought it wasn't really possible to 'push it too far'? Nice job on the green machine ;)

With XMP it shouldn't be, no.

But I was just pushing it past XMP settings already :p

XMP settings for this RAM is:

3200MHz @ 14-16-16-36-2T @ 1.35v

Usually there's a bit of wiggle room at stock volts... so I pushed that straight to 14-14-14-36-1T @ 1.35v

Considering these timings... I think I'll easily be able to run comfortably at 13-13-13-1T, if not even get some 12s in there at 1.5v

Just felt like playing last night rather than tweaking with being up early for work... probably fiddle at the weekend.

crinkle, where did you get your desk from? Looks great and something I'm after.

Switzerland... brought it back with me :)

I'm actually looking to replace it, I want the type of corner desk where you can push yourself into the corner, rather than having effectively two desks stuck together. It's very solid / sturdy though.

I'll drop you a trust message, delete it if it's unwarranted.

The main rebuild is pretty much done, all the tubing etc completed... new pump/res combo units.

The EK pump/res are rather small for the case... i'm thinking about picking up some of the singularity computers units.

The Mayhems X1 blue reacts to UV really well... the Red, not so much. But no biggie... this fluid is basically a flush for a couple of weeks until my pre-order of Primochill Vue comes through...

Sky Blue for the GPU:

Powder Red for the CPU:

I've also ordered some new MDPC-X sleeved cables... in Gulf Blue & Orange (that orange is closer to red in real life and very vibrant).

Here's how it is at the moment... noticed from the photos that the window really needs a clean! I'm also going to do something about the excess holes at the back from the Monsoon reservoirs... as a side note, I STRONGLY recommend against purchasing the MMRS reservoirs... the build quality is absolutely terrible. The plastic for the G1/4 fittings was so soft it was easy to for a metal fitting to destroy the thread (no excess force, light thumb/finger pressure) and the way the screws and mounts are put together, likely the paint they use - they were hard enough to mount properly in the first place - but holy **** I've never had so much trouble taking a PC apart. It was like working on a rusty 20 year old car... stay away!

I had a go at cleaning the block for the second GPU - but it was a nightmare. I thought about ordering a new block... but I've ended up going down to a single GPU for now in my main rig & I stuck the original cooler on the other Titan XP to go in my mining rig.

I'm going to wait until EK release a waterblock for the Titan V and buy one (or see if Nvidia announce anything interesting at CES).

Now to get a 10GbE switch and NIC for my home server...

Need to rename the PC... current netbios name is PurpleUrple

Yeah... I really really dislike the monsoons... worst piece of consumer computing equipment I've ever used and I've worked on 100s of computers... even cleaning out dust from a 10 year old computer is a more pleasant experience than playing with those things... seriously had to hammer-in a slightly oversized allan key to even get the bolts undone (and they weren't over-tightened or anything).

If you want to do 10 gig on the cheap... grab a handful of second hand server NICs off ebay... you can get LC fibre cards or 10GbE cards off ebay or natex.us nice and cheap.

Mine's not going to be too cheap though... I'm planning to get a Meraki MS225-48LP which has 4x SFP+ ports. I really like the cloud-managed infrastructure, even though it's overkill for my home network. These switches are also good because the fans spin down to 0 when under light use and they stay there... so you get a really high end switch without the datacentre noise. It'll be all I need for a good long time and will run the little server room I stick in new house. As a Meraki partner... I get them a lot cheaper than you'd see if you googled that model number... 65% discount.

Thanks, its looking nice, I was thinking of getting one of these so its nice to see one in a setup.

Correction, checked the picture and that was of the older 144Hz TN panel.

I've since replaced it and the newer one has the red led glowing base.

thanks for the advice on the monsoons... i was going to use one in my build, will avoid now though

how's the Vue stuff holding up? it looks gorgeous in your loop so far :D

If you want a really special res - grab one of the singularity computers units - they're awesome.

Vue hasn't arrived yet - that's Mayhem's X1.

Vue at the end of the month.

6th picture - a DDC just screws on. OCUK offer a preassembled bundle but for some reason they don't seem to show pictures of it assembled - I'm pretty sure if there were a DDC mounted, it would stick out more than that.

Yeah... I just want to see some pictures of it assembled.

Looks like it also fits a D5... I'm more used to playing with D5s than DDC.

ohh nice res... i was just looking at the Primochill CTR ones... they look pretty gorgeous

I was thinking about them too.

Finally some pics that show a pump mounted on it. It also acts as a heatsink for a DDC. The implication from that page is that you can use a D5 but not directly attached like you can with a DDC - ie it's just a res with an external, separate D5 pump.
http://www.phanteks.com/PH-R220.html (6th picture again in the gallery at the top of the page)

Yeah, I just found that too :D

Looks awkward though... as I'll be mounting the pump side to the back of my case... rather than side-mounting like they show in their photos.

EDIT: Looks like the phanteks pump bracket should do the job.

Primochill Vue arrived today :)

Swapped the fluid out and plugged in the new cables.

The Vue effect is really nice but isn't the easiest to show in these phone pictures... but this one with flash gives an idea:

Still have to sort out the holes at the back from the old reservoirs.
