I enjoyed this game. I remember being really impressed with the outdoor scenes and my poor computer chugging along.

Loved this game, was probably the closest PC equivalent of Goldeneye on the N64.

I'd loved to play it again, but I think it would just spoil all the fond memories. :(

The Ai was total pap, the later indoor levels were probaly a little too action jackson, which didn't suit the flightsim engine, chug chug ect..

The only 2 negatives i have, the rest was well ahead of it's time, allways wondered why the formula was never followed on given the amount of limited fps seeing the light of day on the pc around the time.

For me it just had a top sense of scale and tension. Think it was the 3rd mission where you need to assualt the base with the aircraft hangar that hooked me in. It's raining, you scope it from the hill, plan take out's of each guard/camera to get in, soon after it goes to pot and you end up in a shoot out.... total immersion.

The game also still features the best Ak-47 firing sound, you've ever seen a rambo flick from the 80's, think that, worth the install alone:)

wasnt the Voodoo 5 s****

It was a nice card but the drivers never really matured. In real life it was about as quick as a Geforce 2 GTS but because of 3dmark giving it low scores it had a bad press.

The MSAA on the Voodoo 5 still has not been beaten for quality, it may of been slow (4x FSAA literally 1/4 fps) but it was amazing.

True. Still not certain whether I've had a card that does that so well since the voodoo.

Where can one buy IGI ? I think IGI 2 is on GOG, but the first one? I would like to try it again after so many years : ).

And I too wonder why the FPS/Stealth/Open formula was never repeated. The concept is really great, with the camera going TPP when hacking, etc.

Oh god, what a trip down memory lane, especially seeing those screenshots. It looks so bad now but at the time, I remember being absolutely gob smacked and how great it looked, such a brilliant sense of scale.

I played this endlessly with a friend of mine, taking it turn about to try and complete the missions. I remember discovering you could fire through the walls of the barracks cabins and kill all of the men inside with one well placed clip ;D

yes....one of my favourites as well...and the hardest to complete....that last mission was hard....great sense of achievement when i did it....tried to install it on my rig a few months ago but i couldnt get it to run....vista 64 bit problem I think...wouldnt mind giving it another go :(

Awesome game! No quick saves, or any saves, though I think that IGI2 allowed you three on a certain difficulty did it not?

Because the AI was so shocking, I saw the levels as a puzzle that had to be tackled in a certain way. I remeber when sniping three patrolling guards walking in a row. You would snipe the first and the others would just walk over the body waiting for their turn to die - lol. The no saves really meant you had little room for error. Very few games are as daring nowadays.

The guy you play - was his name David Jones or something? And was Welsh?

Funny there is a thread about this game.

It was always one of my fave games, and almost completely unknown!

You know what, might be worth a quick install again!
