Project : Purple Rain

Time to get this finished, at long last !

After the disaster of the failing motherboard, everything had to be stripped out.

Gave me a chance to sneak a small upgrade in :)

So now its an Asus Maximus II Formula with a QX6850 chip.

Damaged the perspex rad shroud during the strip down, so that has gone.

Not such a problem as it was kinda dark, so it gave me the option to get some light in there via some extra fans:

Button head bolts and dome nuts for fixings.

New CPU block has been added, probably the nicest looking 775 block that i've seen, a Swiftech Apogee XT Extreme Performance CPU waterblock Rev 2.

At the moment it sat on the kitchen table, with 2 china cats for company :(

Just waiting on a Mips NB block from Germany before i can finish the loop, as the Swiftech one i was going to use soaked me and the mobo when i plumbed it in, dodgy thread i think.

A rough idea of what the reservoirs will look like, excuse the dust and stuff - Still needs a decent polish ;

Lastly, something for the top window, a name :)

pict0009r.jpg

Printed onto the back of some window frosting film it will give the effect of etching on the inside of the acrylic window.

Just need to have a steady hand cutting it out with my scalpel.

Cheers for popping by, back soon.

:D

Thanks all :)

Well the window went far easier then i thought, just finished it.

All cut, ready for the window :

1 block to fit, then re-sort the wiring :)

Cheers.

truly awesome, how come you are using more white braiding now ?

i prefare the black and purple to give it more of a contrast.

Most of the white braid will go, they were extension cables i'd braided earlier.

The main power 24pin and the 8 pin mobo connectors will be black/purple braided as originally done.

I'm keeping the white braid on the graphics card leads though, needs abit of tidying up first, as it kinda goes with the tubing in the front section.

Cheers.

Finishing touches :)

( Aluminium Case Feet - 4 Pack - Black )

The wheels were looking a bit worn, so i was very generously sponsored a set of their own milled aluminium case feet .

The purple looks soooo dark in those finish shots - any chance of some natural lighting shots?

Really good to see it finished - sit back and enjoy it now.

Thanks Stephen.

I'll sort out some more pics, when i've got the strength to move it !!

CustomPC magazine have expressed interest in the build, so i'll have to sort out some better pics at some stage.

Glad to see you got the M/B boot issue sorted.
Looks fantastic and to know that my old M/B is part of it!

Rgds Matt

Ps You gonna leave me some trust??

Thanks Matt.

Will update your trust now mate, completely forgot, sorry :o

Great job there Mark :). You do like your UV/purple don't ya! ;)

Thanks Rich.

There's never enough Purple ;)

Congrats! Looks great in the end, bet your well pleased with it :)

Cheers mate, turned out OK in the end :)

Love Waynio's post, shows how far that case has come and what a great job youve done!

Seems so long ago now, but yes, quite a change.

My HDD's have no cooling and top out at around 15C yours will e in danger of freezing!

Overkill tbh with uneccesary noise!

3. An excess of what is necessary

An excess of what is necessary - I think that sums up modding nicely:D

Thanks for the replies.

does a idea pop into your head and you just do it or something ;).. lol anyway Great build Great Quality wish i had the money to do something like this haha

Great stuff

Holy thread revival Batman !

Basically, yes.

A few drawings of ideas on bits of paper and a bit of freestyle modding along the way.

Thanks for the comment :)

Fantastic build, old thread but oh well. Sorry if it's been asked before but how long do you reckon you spent on braiding altogether? I'm pondering doing a bunch of it but it looks like it's gonna take ages.

Like everything, it comes with practice.

I can probably do a 24 pin power cable, singled wire braiding, in a couple of hours to give a rough idea.

Best way is to pre-cut the braid and heatshrink first, so you have a pile of the stuff, then do the actual braiding. That way you can build up a rhythm instead of constantly reaching around for tools.
