Project Radster - Case Labs S8

Hey

It fills the role of case extension.
I will be moving the PSU there and will install any hard drives only there.
All long cables will be hidden there.
This will free space under the motherboard.
So it gives: One more/Alternative PSU location, 2 more radiator mounting locations, a lot of space for hard drives and cable management.

I personally like this case and would give it a 9.5/10 score.
The 0.5 point goes to cable management and power/reset switch placement. It blocks fittings if you install rad on left side - you need to do what I did and rotatee rad 180 degrees, which means you have to use more tubing.
If you want S8, I would definetely recommend the pedestal as well.
Itt gives you a lot of cable mansgement and hard drive space, another psu mount and 2 360 rad mounts - those are optional and purchased sepparately, a most of accessories from CaseLabs.

Paul

Case weights 6 kg, pedestal around 4 kg, total less than 10.
Few cases are so light and none which are modular and offer so many customizable options.

All CaseLabs cases are shipped flat packed, but you only need cross screwdriver to assemble main skeleton, the rest is held together with thumbscrews and sort of clips.
Anyway, pedestal for my S8 will be at my doorsteps within next 2 weeks.
I will have some other goodies a bit earlier, but need to wait for pedestal before I redo cables.

Hello guys

A small update.
I will be draining the loop tomorrow.
Moving GPU's closer so I can connect them in SLI, polishing blocks etc.
Cable management will have to wait another week or so, until I get my S8 pedestal.
I have all new hdd braided cables ready for that.
I ordered some acrylic pieces to cover some cables and few more places I wasn't comfortable with.
I will post pics when this is done, probably within next few days.
I am also thinking about de-lidding my 4770k, but I will put it at the end of the list of 'to do' things.

Hey colin

I had to wait with emptying the loop, I realized I am almost out of coolant.
I ordered some and should have it soon.
I received an email from CaseLabs saying that they had loads of orders and there will be a delay, but my order should be completed by Monday.
So I imagine I'll have the pedestal sometime next week, Monday or Tuesday.

Out of interest did you ever have to pay the import and vat taxes?

Yes, but it wasn't much. I think 50£ total so far. I will have to add another 30£ or so for the pedestal. I think it's weight/value based.

Edit: Pedestal should be arriving today in the evening. I will be doing some small things next week, but I am going on holidays to China in 3 weeks, so have limited time.

Hello guys

A small update.

Yesterday I received the parcel from CaseLabs with the pedestal, caster kit and few more parts.
I painted the front panels right away with MTN Intense Red spray I had left, then assembled the rest, not with some problems though.
I unpacked all parts and noticed there was some damage, probably made during shipping. Few parts were slightly bent, but I managed to fix it with pliers - not entirely though. I have attached the caster kit too, so it will be much easier to move the case without lifting it up.
Another thing is, now the case is 90 cm tall.
A monster :)

I did not do anything other than that because of my current condition (taking antibiotics and feel as if I got hit by a 'truck loaded with coal').

Some parts are still drying, but I have 2 pictures for you, before and after assembly.

Flatpacked:

Assembled:

All screw holes were placed properly and there were a lot of spare screws too. CaseLabs quality as usual, 10/10 :D
I will be doing some more stuff after the weekend, if I feel any better.

EDIT: The parts painted red dried nicely, I've put second layer just in case.
I will be doing more stuff soon.

Hey guys

I felt much better yesterday and today so decided to do some work.
From small thing became bigger one and eventually I ended up re-building the whole loop. I made some sections shorter, moved GPU's to different slots, but most importantly, moved all hard drives and PSU to pedestal and more :)

Pictures below:

1. Assembling HDD cage. It will hold 1 3.5" hdd, 2 x 2.5" sshd's and os ssd.

2. Added drives, left ssd for later and moved on to another part.

3. Installed PSU in the pedestal, still a lot of space left:

4. HDD cage with drives installed:

5. In the meantime, I disassembled previous loop:

6. Some small and cosmetic changes.

7. Guess what I am doing here:

8. It was 11 pm when i finished, so picture looks funny :)
I will make a better one tomorrow, but there you go - don't go blind from the glow :0

Things I still have left to do:
1. Finish cable management (cable extensions /MDPC).
2. Cosmetic upgrades, lighting etc.
3. 6 more fans for the top 2 rads, for push/pull.

Still something left to do :)

Well, that will have to wait.
I still have milion of things to do before going on holidays and I won't have time.
And my funds are tight this month.
So next update will be after I get back in August.

Nice :)

Needs DSLR pics!

Sorry, trip to China ate all my funds :-)
I only have some basic Nikon to make pictures.

I will be adding more led strips there, probably 6 x 30 cm to illuminate whole left side of the case and move the 50 cm one to front.
I hope I will be able to make some better pics, too.

There is also another thing, I need to change my mouse. I have a 3 years old Razer and it starts to miss some klicks. Planning to buy EVGA Torq X10 this time. OCuk, get them in stock !!! :-)

Hello guys

I am considering some hardware changes.
As you probably know, we should see x99 motherboards and cpu's and ddr4 soon, as far as I know in September.
I may end up switching some components.
Plan was to get a 4790k, but I read about them and it looks like a lottery again.

I wiill be still doing some stuff after holidays, but minor things.

S8 with pedestal and extended top is a monster.
I wanted to hide my case under the desk, before going on holidays and couldn't.
S5 is one of my favorites too.

Edit: I will be selling off my S8 soon and moving to X99 platform, mATX.
Reason for selling the case - to big :-)
I don't have enough space both for this and large screen or multiple screens.
Right now this rig works great, but I had to much bad luck while building it.

I will be starting a new log after X99 gets released.
CL case again of course :-)
I'll treat myself one for my birthday, in September :-)
