Project: Si7ence

Couldn't think of a decent name for this build but think will suffice :p

Have yet to actually receive any new kit as waiting for payday! So will outline what the build will be so far:

Case: Silverstone TJ-07 BW
Mobo: EVGA X58 SLI motherboard
CPU: i7 920 D0 Stepping
RAM: 6gb 1600Mhz Dominator
HDD: 2x500gb HDDs in Raid0 (though looking towards SSD's towards the end of this build)
GFX: Either 4870x2 with EK block or (more than likely) a GTX 295 with undecided block though like the Koolance block again
Sound: Asus Xonar DX

Currently for the watercooling I have the following planned

CPU and board loop:

CPU: Heatkiller 3.0 Copper
NB/SB: MIPS SLI chipset block
Rad: Thermochill PA120.3 / might switch for a quad rad in bottom of case
Pump: DDC 18w w/ Alphacool top
Res: EK Multires 150 rev.2

Graphic card loop:

Rad: Black Ice GT 240
Pump: DDC 18w w/ Alphacool top
Res: EK Multires 150 rev.2
Block: Will be EK (as already have it) for the 4870x2 / GTX 295 undecided though like the Koolance block again

I also have a few plans for a little bit of modding to the case, nothing major but will add to the overall theme, will be sticking to the black/orange look but will be added to with a few bits here or there

Will post some pics up when new hardware arrives :D

Have you got the heatkiller yet i have been looking at these, just waiting for someone to get one and report in:)

When is payday for you then? I hate the wait, all ready and waiting until you actually have money in your account! haha

Looks good to me, look forward to seeing how it goes :)

Payday is this Friday :)

Buying the board, ram, cpu and blocks then (koolance blocks and heatkiller)

Also buying extra res and numerous other bits for the loop

Better mount HDDs with soft mounting/elastic suspension or that silence might be MIA...

HDD's are already mounted in a scythe HDD silencer :)

EDIT: W3bb0 - thought the LT was the top model, obvously not! Spec will be changed :D

fari enough, have had a look and found the 3.0 block so will go for that, might drop the vreg block though and just use the chipset block. Looking at the board again and it has a healthy heatsink already on the vreg and would just be dumping extra heat in the loop, heatsink is right by the 92mm fans on the TJ-07 anyway so will get good airflow

Chipset block will also mean the fan on that assembly is gone, not sure how loud this is by default

Sorry guys been a bit lazy updating this thread, got a small update from the 25th:

UPDATE: 25/04/09

Some bits arrived, take about quick as one of the bits wasn't even in stock and it arrived next day! Have paid for mobo + RAM, also blocks are on order from Germany, MIPS block for the board as want to get rid of stock fan on NB and a Heatkiller 3.0, won't be arriving until 2-3 of May though, have ordered a kit for my current D-TEK Fuzion V2 though so can use my current loop in the mean time

Parts that arrived:

Lots of compression fittings! Must say they do look really nice in the flesh so can't wait until they are on. New tubing as well as currently on 7/16th and second res ready for the 2nd loop, don't think I need to explain the coils or fan extension wires

Have also gone for the MIPS block as the place I ordered the Heatkiller 3.0 only had that for my board, will look nice in black as well and go with my theme

UPDATE: 06/05/09

Well an update has been a long time coming, I have received my board and some temporary RAM to get this up and running but due to running out of funds and being messed about with my blocks a few bits haven't been ordered yet. However this has given me time to start to organise a few things with my current case and mod ideas I have and get them going, has also meant I have had more time to do other things rather than sit in front of my PC the whole time! Nevertheless here is what I have been doing and my new toys:

Firstly the temporary RAM, will be looking towards either Dominator or the Mushkin RAM, both having black heatsinks will mean they go well with the theme of black and orange:

and the EVGA board, I have already removed the stock heatsink and cleaned it ready for the block to be mounted:

One annoying thing about the board is the sticker next to the PCI-E slots, the warranty is void if you remove it. Will be placing my graphics card in the top slot to try and conceal it as best as possible:

Another nice little touch with this board is they supply you with black SATA cables and not the standard red ones, I will be sticking with my orange ones from my previous build though:

Finally a shot I really like, all of the watercooling goodness lined up

Also seeing my mate was so pleased with his disk setup (3 x 30gb vertexs!) thought I would show mine off as well :D

Yeah maybe not quite as impressive! Will be looking at getting 2 x 30gb vertexs later on in the build for Raid 0

Finally is my next mod project, well one of two being doing at the moment, as trying to stick to the theme of orange and black I will be modding the LED's from the front of the case from the stock blue to orange, will be tough removing the stock LEDs and replacing them but should be possible with some trial and error:

The other mod (well not really a mod) is spraying my DVD drive, this was given the first coat tonight but needs a second one to finish it off, not really pic worthy at the moment! Also need to cut the drive bays to fit the stealth bezel from a Lian Li but that won't be done for a while yet..

Thanks for looking!

I want to see this all up and running :O
Btw is it possible to just have watercooling on the CPU to start off with and then add later with the graphics cards etc?

Ive never done it before so i dont know whether just having a CPU block would restrict me unless i bought a whole new kit

So do I!

Yep you can certainly do that, if you wanted to add blocks into the same loop then you would simply drain the loop of water, adjust the tubing to include the new blocks and then refill. You will just need to make sure the radiator you buy originally will be able to handle the heat dump from the whole loop.

Or if you have enough space you could add in a 2nd loop, so 2nd rad, res, pump etc

Can a mod change the title of this thread please to "Project: Si7ence" please

i think its a good title :p just indicates its an i7 system thats going to be 'near' silent ;)

Cheers for the info too. Cant wait for a new build and watercooling compared to my 2006 Fujitsu-Siemens that sounds like im in a server room with cooling towers -___-

Cheers guys, I just wanted to remove the l from the title as thats what the 7 should be :p Wasn't thinking when made the thread..

Will get modding the case in the next week or so for the Lian Li bezel to fit in, don't think any new hardware will be coming until near the end of the month, though that should include a d0 920, new PSU, RAM and blocks :)
