Project - Tedious / Bland

Im going to be doing a TJ07 bulid shortly :D seeing this thread makes me not want to :( but its a big jump for me because im only 16 and havent done watercooling before :-S.
It was Rjkoneill that inspired me to go with the TJ07 and when i complete it i will be over the moon if it all works :D and i wont really care if people slate me because its been ''Done to Death'', after all its my money :D.

there are now only a few cases that are either designed to allow watercooling and the masses (i.e. ME) automatically gravitate to these as at the early stages it is a MASSIVE investment and we want it to look good straight away without any drilling or powder coating or modding etc..

TJ07 .. good choice keep confidence in that choice

but its a big jump for me because im only 16 and havent done watercooling before :-S.

nice one dude, 16 and building new PC's ... give it 20 years and the TJ07 will still be with you, it might look different as in those years you will gain confidence and mod it more and more

the essence of this thread is not.. such and such a case is bad .. I think it's just a bit quiet of late on the whole I found this old shoe box and spent 17 months turning it into a faster than light capable uber-machine !

it's not the choice of case, as we all aspire to buy what is best available to our budget, it is more what we do next once we have "gotten our feet wet !"

and i wont really care if people slate me because its been ''Done to Death'', after all its my money :D.

no one here will slate you, in fact everyone will applaud you for a job well done ! ( if you do a good job ... or like me if you murderlise the crap outta it and hide the corpse REAL good !)

Back on topic, I'm considering what to do next .. I've taken a bland boring 800D just like every other guy and made a monster .. !

I love the whole " I wonder what happens if I encase my mainboard in styrofoam and then model an igloo on top ... I shall call her ICY PC !" shebang, but am I ready for it ? do I have the resources to do it ?

well, not yet ... but I'm working on it ... this is what makes us the "FEW" enthusiasts ..

something wonderful only comes along in a long while that's what makes it wonderful ...

MRD, if every build on this forum was a from scratch piece of art, would we really appreciate it ? or would we judge it like we do TJ07 and 800D's now ..

..

damn I'm getting deep for a friday lunch ... needz more caffeine I think ! ;)

Needz less caffeine or you'll never be able to hold that Dremmel straight.

If I were to sum it up, I guess what is needed is variety, and modding the likes of the 800D etc does form part of that variety.

I'd like to see some retro builds. Bring back the CoolerMaster ATC-201s, the old school Lian Li efforts, dare I say it even a Chieftec Scorpio.

New hardware + old school cases = challenges, innovation and hopefully some good old fashioned win. :)

Tada! :D

Come and check out my log :p It's a CM ATCS 840! :p Not something you see very often, but it's an excellent case. To be fair, I bought it just before the 800D came out, and if I had the cash, I would have bought that or a TJ07 (I do love that case), however, the ATCS 840 is pretty sweet. Will be fun to see what I can do. Ok, I'm not going to mod it hugely, but it will be something different once I get building :p

You can't really blame people for following the crowd Mark - the vast majority of people don't want to have to build their own pc, and of those that do, most don't want to have to spend the time and money cutting bits up and potentially wrecking an expensive case. PC components are geting prettier and lots of the things people would have been forced to mod or do themselves is done for them in the shape of packaged discrete, pretty products. If the products they need are available and don't require hours of time and expense, then they'll naturally go for it. Similarly, everyone who could afford one went for a TJ-07 or lian li v-series because they were amenable to watercooling and they'd seen others get good results.

Case design improves, and manufacturers start to incorporate features that there was previously not enough demand for them to bother about. Those that wanted to have those features in a case had to mod them And if they were going to all that effort they may as well make it individual. Still, many didn't.

Now people choose to mod their case and do all those little self-made touches you're talking bout, so it's not surprising there aren't as many around.

I say go for it! the Tj07 is the easiest case to mod simply because there really is not much thought involved, just pick the components you want to use and plug them in!

I put a water cooled TJ07 together a few years ago now and to be honest haven't really touched it since.. The inspiration has gone.

Hopefully it will return or I may just sell it on..
