Most of the bits like brakes and seats I have got s/h but unused, exhaust was s/h but stainless so didn't matter. Cams were in a group buy and suspension will be at cost price. Obviously a few other bits and bobs but can be all returned to standard and sold for pretty much same price I paid. Only bit that is dead money is the remap.

Car: 2200
Seats: 440 including mounts + harnesses
Brakes: 500
Entire exhaust: 220
Suspension will be about: 500
Cams: 220
Remap: 450

Still want an lsd though but that bloke sold the gearbox so it would cost me a pretty penny to get one brand new and fitted to a gearbox. Will keep an eye out for a box with one in.

Those prices sound good tbh.

What have you got planned for the suspension? Dropping it?

Group N dampers, custom 180lb springs, poly bushes all round, upper and lower brace on the front. Thicker rear anti roll bar for a bit of ass-ooot action :) I will research and find out what length springs I need to order at that spring rate to give me a 30mm drop and get that and then adjust torsion bar to suit.

Forgot to say apart from fitting cams which I am getting a mate to do properly along with new belt, tensioners, water pump and cam seals I will have done all the work myself which obviously has saved me a fair chunk.

Picked up these

:)

Can anyone help me choose some harnesses? I want 3" wide ones preferably in black or grey but with a regular seatbelt fastening in the middle rather than the aircraft type buckle. Also whats the benefit of 4 point over 3 point harnesses?

Does anyone know of any companies that would be able to do a custom heated windscreen like on modern cars? I wanna rip my dash out but I would still like to demist my windows!

Finally anyone know of a good semi-slick tyre avaliable in 195-45-15, can find plenty in 50 profile but not 45.

Cheers

Got these unused harnesses very cheap off a mate, will do until I can find some nice black 3" ones.

Seat frames will be done soon I hope!

Just remove the dashboard completely, block up all the holes for airvents etc with some duck-tape.

Buy an aftermarket tachometer if your bothered about revs and a speedo.

demisting the windscreen? heaters for when its cold? Its not just a track car so yes speedo, revs, petrol gauge etc would be handy too :p

Hmm you aren't thrashing hard enough to get heat soak into the main cabin?? ;)

Group N progressive dampers and group n top mounts, just waiting for springs to arrive so I can get cracking getting it all together ready for the ring mid july :)

What do the insurance company say about these mods.. ie the stripping it out ?

I like the project keep up the good work

Mind if I ask where you got them from? and which springs you going for?

Dunno yet :)

From a comany called Kam Racing, I got them at cost price because I'm going to do them a little review on their site.

Have ordered 170lb 240mm custom springs from Faulkner which will give a 30-40mm drop and be stiff as you like but they are taking 3 weeks to make so ordered some gmc motorsport 40mm springs in the meantime as they handle well, suit the group n's and are pretty cheap.

If you were to order the whole package I would order from gmc motorsport however if it is for a full road car I would recommend bilstein sport dampers and H+R springs as these aren't as harsh.

Got the springs, 180lb progressive jobbies and some brand new genuine top mount bearings while I was at it.

As you can see, sits a little bit lower on the front but not loads. Will be getting the rear matched when I can source a fat rear anti roll bar. Removed the 16v badges too.

It handles awesomely, very sharp turn in, zero body roll and its ability to change direction is much improved. And unlike most aftermarket suspension, doesn't bottom out, doesn't bounce around and isn't actually that bad of a ride. Bilstein mono-tube dampers rock :)

It's coming on leaps and bounds!

Are the Gti/VTS 16v engines prone to head gasket failure?

Seen a few on pistonheads etc that have had new head gaskets an radiators. They have done 70k miles +.

Is it a common problem?

70K miles you say?

I'll let you know in about 15 years if I'm having any problems :D
