I've been doing a fair bit of upgrading of my system and finally happy with it now (see signature).

Currently I have my Onkyo and Epson projector setup & calibrated by eye, it has around 75hrs on the lamp now. I have read after around 100hrs after the lamp's colour temp has settled it is worth doing a proper calibration job however I wanted to know how many other people have done this and if so what solution you use.

I don't mind forking out for a calibration disk however I don't want to spend a horrific amount!

I have seen these and is what I have done initially, I just wondered if anyone had experience of the dedicated disks or hardware available and if it was of benefit

THX optimiser will do a basic projector calibration but to make it complete you need the blue polarising filter to set the color tint correctly and i also heard that each THX optimiser is optimised for that movie, so THX-O for one movie will be different to THX-O for another for example. I'm not sure if this is true, but it's a good theory.

I would get over to somewhere like AVForums or AVScience, search for an owners thread on your projector and go from there.

You can download a free calibration disc here http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration

None of the disks will do anything about your grayscale though which is the most dramatic change you can make when calibrating.

If you're serious about it you'd be better getting it done professionally.
