You can see the clear lack of detail in the projector image.

Heres 2 videos of the same scene in John carter (HD netflix clip)
I know there are abnormalities like screen glare in the samsung one(forgot about the window) and ghosting in the projector (you dont see this when watching) but you can see the MUCH increased detail and crispness of the TV over a projector. Should i just give up and accept this level of HD from the projector unless im willing to pay £2k ?

Go to the AV forums for some calibration help.
Sometimes I'm amazed by the quality of the projector over my blu rays.

That said, it's only a 400 quid projector.

Just done :) i have already tried different settings for the projector but maybe someone will have a brainwave. Even when i change the sharpness level of the HD141x i can hardly see a difference at all..hrmm :/

As you have your projector on a plain wall it may not help. Having a proper screen helps a lot, especially with borders and masking.

But if you aren't happy, I'm not sure if its worth getting a screen.

i think the model i went for is not good enough in comparison to what i had before. Will see if i can get a model up. i.e. maybe the Optoma HD28DSE. I dont think having a screen would help the projector to suddenly start showing the details i'm missing unfortunately.

Fair enough, sounds like you aren't happy with it so may aswell try another one if you can.

Just happy I feel okay with mine! Saying that my main TV is a 3-4 year old 42" LG LCD so it's not the best anyway.

I did faff around with the zoom and focus wheels on the top of the projector (they are extremely finicky) and got a slightly better HD picture but i think i will bite the bullet and try the W1070.

quite happy with mine. Some colour wheel patterns are noticed occasionally (kodi menu's noticeable) but overall great. No issues with gaming on ps4

W1070 arrived today so will put up pics and maybe video of the HD quality. :D

Unfortunately for me netflix removed 77 titles including John Carter (my hd test film) so i cant test.

I think the HD is a bit better than the HD141x but heres a summary of the pros and cons so far. (havent properly calibrated it yet tho)

W1070

+ slightly better image than HD141x
+ slightly better colours
+ cant see the rainbow :)
+ larger screen from same distance (so longer throw i guess if u consider that a plus)
- inbuilt sound is not as good as the HD141x. (its very tinny on the w1070)
- slight judder occasionally on the w1070 on some motion scenes.

I think overrall its an improvement so happy with that. The HD isnt as good my tv but i guess as its a projector ill have to live with that. At least now when something is in HD it looks at least HD rather than SD.
