Hello,

I'm thinking of getting a Projector, the current favourite is the 'Optoma HD200X' with a 84" screen for £799. Is this the best bet for the money?

Does anyone know a good ceiling mount to pair it with?

Which other projectors in this price bracket (or cheaper!) are worth considering, it'll have a HTPC, V+ and a 360 plugged into it (although will be used at the weekends - keeping a HDTV for day to day TV)

Cheers

For the money that is the only real 1080p option at the min (albeit a decent one) a optoma hd600x which is a 720p projector is £550 with a screen if your not too fussed about full hd.
Theres a few cheap mounts on ebay that will fit the bill.

Not looked into the 720p ones...any clues on where you can get the Optoma HD 600x and a screen for £550 (overclockers don't stock projectors so I assume its OK?)

Cheers

Optoma i recommend the Optoma HD65 for about £500 + thats the next thing ill be looking at.

the Acer H5360 or H5350 (5350 is not as bright)

or
BenQ W600

i have a 84" screen perfect size for 2-4 ppl about 6 feet distance away and a 720p projector sanyo plv-z5.

so dlp's don't give rainbow effect like me ?

nice, is the screen pretty big?

im thinking of a 84 or 90 " however your throw distance is pretty short does that affect the size or quality of the picture?

i haven't measured my throw distance in the sitting room but i believe mines between 7-8 feet.

my current setup is
Pioneer sound system, is a pre 1990's stack but the amp is bloody amazing and the speakers are about 2 feet tall.

just brought a combo blue ray player as the pc is in the sitting room all setup.

and i was lucky to get a panasonic 5.1 speaking system from my sister which i got for free :)

next thing im buying is the projector screen. im thinking 84" then last but not least projector.

cant wait to watch 2012 on a cinema screen with surround sound.

will set up a new thread soon with all specs.

I've just seen the 'sanyo plv-z5' for £200! This seems like a very good price, am I missing something? My thinking is I could justify this price for a year or two and then replace with a 3D projector (when the formats are a little better).

Can a 'cheap' Projector compete at this price? I've read some old reviews and the sanyo plv-z5 seems like a good buy (but back then it was $2000!)

I still use and enjoy my Sanyo Z3. I'm pretty confident that the Z5 is better, so that sounds like an excellent price.

I've done a quick google. Are you sure that's not just the bulb at £200 as that's the only thing I can find at that price

I've double checked and it looks like the full projector...I assume it would be alright to include a link as OC don't stock projectors?

Edit,
Just gone to buy and although '8 in stock' it's out of stock once you hit buy...you were right too good to be true!

Bummer :(
The optomas listed above are probably the best vfm budget projectors. £800 for 1080p can't be argued with but personally I'm more than happy with a 720p Acer which, far as I know, is much the same as the HD600x

I just bought the Acer H5360 with a 92" screen.
Never had experience with projectors but am really loving this. Its crystal clear, sharp and colourful.

Only problem is the zoom is pretty minimal, as it is with anything at the low end. So i can't put it all the way on teh other side of the room, its sort of stuck in the middle.

yeah where i have my sanyo mounted on the cieling its perfect at that distance because its a proper no digital zoom image quality is fine.

theres plenty of zoom in/out where it is for fine tuning, i found i needed quite a low mount about 18 inches from to the top of the projector that way there hardly and up/down adjustments to do.

i thinks its amazing quality for the price the z700 is like £100 more than what i payed for my z5 2y ago
