Need to buy a projector (more for business/presentation use than home cinema) so thought I'd ask the knowledge of OcUK :p (btw, anyone know any decent business/presentation projector forums/review sites?)

The budget is £1500 inc (max max) and it will be used in a quite bright room, and I reckon should be LCD. The current projector is an 800x600 1500lumens InFocus, and tbh is crap .

I've found the Sony CX155 for £1313.12, which is 3500Lumens and 1024x768 (will display/compress 1400x1050) and was wondering if anyone here has any experience of the Sony CX range?

The only concerns about that projector is it's not DVI (my MacBook Pro will be one of the main laptops used with it) but I guess it'll work with a DVI-VGA adapter  (the one Apple ship the MBP with) Other concern is that 1024*768 is imo quite a low resolution :(

Soo, does anyone have any suggestions of a projector with higher resolution/DVI for (upto) £200 more than the Sony CX155?

TY All....

For £1900 you could get a rather snazzy Panasonic AE2000, which would be my personal choice.
Having said that, it's not an amazingly bright unit, and unless used in low light conditions is probably not a great plan.
However, no projector is going to look great in daylight conditions.

Other options include the new Panny AX200, which is supposedly a good deal brighter than the AE2000, but only 720P capable and doesn't have the same contrast ratio abilities.
If you're not affected by rainbows (I am), then a good DLP would be worth investigating. I don't know much about them because I can see rainbows, so can't really comment to much about them.

TY for the reply, but unfortunately the AE2000 is only 1500Lumens which is too low :( and the AX200 is 2000lumens which is still a bit low. :(

And we've struggled to get the £1500 budget, so I very much doubt £1900 would be approved (as this is only a temporary/portable projector, long term we're looking @ 10,000+lumens throwing from about 20metres!)

We've tried a 2100lumens NEC and that was just ok, so the 3500 of the Sony should be fine...it's just the resolution and lack of DVI that's holding me back...

Re DLP, I've never been effected by rainbows but recently a cheap/crap projector was used and loads of people (me included) saw it then , But no-ones ever mentioned seeing rainbows from the borrowed NEC (audience is usually between 300-500)...but reckon a LCD projector would be the safe-bet

The AE2000 although out of your price range has 16000:1 contrast when used in "Normal" mode. Surfing the net or watching tv with the lights on etc isnt a problem but colours etc will not be accurate in such conditions and blacks will be much more washed out.

It may only have 1500 lumens compared to the AX200 2000 but theirs 16000:1 Vs 6000:1 contrast, massive difference.

I own both the AX100 (virtually same specs as the AX200) and the new AE2000E 1080p model

Your other problems may be screen size and throw distance which you do not mention or if you hav windows/blinds direct sunlight effecting the room.

Why console gaming, what games are 1080P?

Very few unfortunately, however they dont have to be to appreciate the vast improvement in the 1080p and 720p projectors i have here. In specs and quality theirs a big difference with most of the 1080p projectors (because of their price/specs) over the usual sub £1000 720p models.

ID easuily say its a match in quality to many plasma models with none of the retention issues.

Yea, the budgets really tight. Hopefully on monday we'll get approval for the £1300 Sony.
In the long term were looking at a proper £20k install, with projector throwing 20m and LCD's etc

Throw distance is about 3m I'd guess, and there's no direct light on the screen (used during evenings) but there's lots of indirect light in the room, and there's no way I'd be able to get them turned off :(
