So... I've always wanted a projector, but don't know a great deal about them.

I'd like to know what is needed?

Is it possible to use them daily for general TV watching? Or are they only suitable for movies? I'd love to watch Sky Sports on it!!

What sort of screen should I be looking at? An electronic rolly down one or just a fixed screen? Any good brands to go for and ones to avoid would be great.

P.S. I'd of course like 1080P and be able to hook it up to the PC via HDMI and possibly the sky box at the same time.

I don't have a budget as such. Just looking to spend what I need to without going crazy and being excessive. I do however like good quality and don't want to skimp on quality and buy a £300 job.

If you have pics of your setup. I'd love to see it!!!

Cheers lads.

P.S. Are they suitable daytime viewing and how would this compare to a standard TV.

I don't have a projector, but here's my understanding. The issues with TV watching are that the projector lamp can have a warm up time, so you can't just flick the TV on. Also, you need black out blinds really to watch during daytime, so that may be inconvenient too.

Projector bulbs are also expensive and will need replacing.

This puts me off big time!!

Can anyone confirm this is indeed the case.

Try AV Forums, they have a whole section dedicated to projectors with some very knowledgable and helpful regulars.

Not a Projector owner myself but looking to set one up in the future, from what i've learnt so far it seems bulbs can be expensive depending on projector model, but most have a lifespan of several thousand hours so it's not really something you need to be particularly worried about. Room conditions are the most important consideration with projectors eg light control/wall and floor colour. As I say though, Av Forums is the place to go, they'll answer your questions and recommend models within budget, etc.
