Promotion with no extra dosh? Accept?

Avoid avoid avoid. Take it as a big indicator that you really dont want to be working for a company with that ethic. Time *skill = money.

Dont waste any more time than necessary in a company that doesnt value your skills or time.

They arent offering you a promotion, they are offering you a sideways step, different skills same money. The corporate ladder isnt a ladder at all, its a lift and your stuck one of the floors.

Think about the next role they will offer you after this one, you want to be increasing your value every time your job is changed. What happens when you get another promotion a few years down the line? new skills same money? measly payrise(this is almost a dead cert, they know from you accepting more responsibility with no increase in pay that you can be squeezed on money side of a job) you wont be able to come back to them on it. Think carefully about accepting any change to role or T&C's.

If it were me I'd be on to the job boards asap. It would be clear they dont value me as an employee.

Oh and if you want your CV to look nicer, get certs in something you want to go into, counts far more than a sideways step as shows ambition.

Simple one this time:

You get offered a better, but harder job - higher on the slippery corporate 'ladder', but no extra money.

The boss says 'if you say no, I'll just get some other guy - no probs - up to you'. He is not interested in pay reviews in 6 months or 1 year, in seeing how it goes then discussing what you're worth, anything. But it'd make your CV look nicer, full stop.

What are you going to do?
Ask for the best job title possible. Do it for a year and leave.

Your boss sounds like an ****.

It's all about job titles, if the 'promotion' comes with a better job title, take it as potentially it increases what you can command your salary to be in the future, whether that be at the same place or someplace else.

If you do well at the job and become an integral part of the company they will be forced to offered you a pay rise if you do get offered a job from someplace else. You will find that some companies only offer decent pay rises whether there is a threat of key members of staff leaving.

Take it for the title, line up a new job, hand in your notice and see if they are then willing to consider pay. If they offer you a pay rise, still leave but with the satisfaction you got it eventually.

If then dont value you enough to pay you, move on.
