Went shopping at my local Supermarket last night, while chatting on my mobile hand free of course to girlfreind, i reversed then puts it into what i thought was 1st gear... stalled try it again, stalled tries it one last time.... stalled.

Sat there thinking WTF wrong with this car!!!!

And telling the girlfreind, i think my car buggered

I then relized i tried to start of in 3rd gear  :D

But in my defence it was dark and i was proper tired, as i've been up all day after a nightshift.

I spent 2 mins driving home saying to myself you thick B**tard lol
while the Girlfreind was laughing her paps off over the mobile.

I've been driving for years, and that the first time i ever done that, since proberly the days i first passed.

So to make me feel better has any of you had any daft moments with your car or driving.

I remember driving Aston Martin for the first time. Put in 1st gear - stalled, try again - stalled. I then managed to drive off with applying a bit more gas :) Was driving the whole day like that - though it was how that car works - just need a bit more gas at the start.
It was until next day I realised I was driving off on 3rd every time :))))

ive got to admit i agree with kae2 a bit... if youre that dead having a conversation isnt going to help your abilities. but hey, hands free is legal, so its ay-ok

try figuring on a ferrari :

a) how to start it
b) how to go into neutral
c) where the hell the battery is

sounds simple but when the stupid thing stalls all the time and it wont restart in the middle of traffic you really do look like a grade A lemon, START DAMN YOU, nope not till you figure out the immobiliser that kicks in the second you stall, START DAMN YOU, nope you figured out the immobiliser but you left me in gear and I'll not make it easy for you to find neutral.

oh and

d) how to put the car into reverse without looking like a large gay (if you saw the reverse gear stick you would know what I'm talking about!)

and not forgetting

e) if you stall it and the imobiliser hates you enough it then automatically activates the tracker and you have your phone ringing off the hook whilst you sit in a large goldfish bowl (everyone looks in it!) shouting at italian anti theft technology!

Nothing like that, but reversing out of my space at my Mothers house one morning, tired after getting up 60 seconds previous and late for work - taking out the side of my neighbours car, and nothing on the E34 525 I had borrowed.

Only cost me £200 :(

I once parked up, put the handbrake on and then decided to move but when I tried to reverse I kept on stalling, I even got out of the car as I thought I must be getting stuck on something or had broken the car, nope, just hadn't released the bloody handbrake.

ah that reminds me! First time I tried to get the key out of my old saab was amusing!

Haha, my ex and myself did the same with our 9-5. The worst bit is I told her how to get it out but I did the same thing a few days later and was rather confused. Doh.

The first time I drove an auto was my bosses Range Rover. Put key in, nice roaring V8 ticking away in park... right... how do I get it in drive? I almost started to use my whole body weight to move the shifter after pulling at it like a n00b, but I instinctively put my foot on the brake before giving it full on pull and it just nudged into drive. I was sat there for about 5 mins and felt proper stupid afterwards.

left foot breaking in my first automatic whilst still on the rental forecourt was amusing

"have you driven an auto before"

" yes ofcourse"

next thing he sees is me practically headbutting the steering wheel as i brake to pull onto the road - he must have chuckled
