I am getting tried of the usual retrieve the documents and kill the general WW2 games and I was wondering whether there are any legit trench warfare games where people fight in trenches and falll back or push forward. A real war game.

Not that I know of, problem is most people don't fancy being sat there for months waiting for a break through. Trench warfare ain't a nice thing! (well no warfare is but u get the point).

Trench warfare became unfasionable with the advent of blitzkrieg tactics in WWII. Why fight along entrenched lines when you can simply drive around them?

There is a Mod on Steam that is a trench war far WW1 game :)

I think you need HL1 to play it though.

Its called trenches

Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault has some sections which could be likened to trench warfare in some regards, however the environments are quite varied and it doesn't focus just on that aspect.

Imagine if there was a next gen WW1 game, showing the battle of somme, running around the trenches and if you want to get health u went in the medic trench! Running around in trenches.

Well slightly off topic, but one game which was good was Vietcong, where you had to climb through a pitch black tunnel, cramped, using a torch and it honestly took like 3 hours to get through it all, there was gooks hidden trying to kill you, very good game though, maybe old but it was an amazing game.

I went through that whole section, which took many attempts, and found, right at the end, I had a torch!

Damn, I did the same. I was making a trail of the green neons that you get.

hehehehe i ran out of said flares and went through half of the thing in the pitch black with only the muzzle flash to guide me!

they really should have made it more obvious that you had a torch ;)

I really wanted Vietcong but was waiting for it to come down in price, then it disappeared from all the local games shops...I was rather miffed. Of course I could probably get it online...may have to look into that.

Valve

trouble with trench warfare is that its not the best subject for a game

not because of sensitivity or whatever but just because Trench warfare is so damn one sided. Think of the omaha beach map on medal of honour, but all the way through

and you get the idea

Yeah but if they get the re-spawn times right etc it would be a right laugh (as long as you didn't mind dying about 50 times!). edit: You could have unlimited "lives" for the attacking team, limited for the defending and a timelimit to hold out for. Oh, and no individual kill scores at all... :)

As someone else has said, Red Orchestra is about the best out there at the moment, couple of maps with trenches that you have to work your way through etc.

Check out - www.1944d-day.com granted it isn't out yet and doesn;t solely use trench warfare but it simulates the whole war as a whole, looks pretty promising
