Hi Folks

Recently I have been getting a lot of mail from regulars and lurkers about the lack of a project log section to case central.
it has been suggested that a subforum that only contains project logs could be created in case central to house all of the ongoing OcUK projects.

the format would be similar to how the motorsport section sits in motors and would seperate the builds and modding projects from the general case/modding questions.

the benefit to this is that it would generate more traffic to the projects as they would not get mixed up with general case questions.

what are your thoughts?
all ideas are welcome

It get's get my vote mate.

Would perhaps raise the profile of OcUK too aslong as it doesn't have your run of the mill basic stuff. Projects should be exactly that. A picture of a completed, bog standard pc is not a project imho.;)

Jeez that sounds elitist!

Nothing wrong with a spot of elitism really. :P

Great projects can be powered by a Pentium 4, it's the mods that count.

I wouldn't just have a build log section, I'd have it just for mod projects. Just for the projects with something that sets them apart. Otherwise known as the porn section. :P

Maybe new threads should have to be approved before they get posted, and if it's just just a build log, stick it in the normal case section.

Just my two pence. :P Nothing wrong with people posting their builds, just for a lot of members who just want to see the elite mods, better to have them creamed out?

Might attract more modders from other forums too.

agree with the above,
its a great idea as long as it can be monitored so that people dont just put a few pictures on a post and ask questions about what they should do etc...

i would be modding it if it were to go ahead, and im sure NathWraith would help me out :)

i would do a sticky advising on the best way to lay it out and 'how to attract attention to your mod' or something to that effect anyway

Muel, just to clarify, are you saying it would be a better idea to keep it just for mod projects rather than simple builds?

i see where you are coming from but i think that if a sticky was in place to ensure that the build [however simple it was] is posted with a trail of build pics then that would be better?

theres never a great deal of projects going on at any one time so it would be good to have it with a mix.

the popular ones normally get indicated by the 9+ page links next to the title :D

I think it is a great idea but it would be good to allow any build with progress photos being taken of it to be posted, not just the more complicated / impressive builds, as rjk says if a build is more complicated / popular it will get plenty of page views anyway.

Allowing everyone making a build to post will help keep questions or updates on the build in the same place, which would be helpful :). Good place for aspiring case modders to start as well :).

Aye I was meaning seperate the mod projects from the neat and beautiful but unmodded builds.

Maybe have just a build log section, and then a mod log section, and when a thread becomes a goodun with lots of replies and pics, then it gets moved into that section by a mod? Then in a few years say, there would still only be one page, so if a new member signed up in 2014, they could look back through the list and just see the best logs of the forums life?

The only problem will be that really neat and tidy looking builds may not get noticed as much, despite taking some skill to get right. That's why I reckon a normal build section, and then an "Elite" section, maybe not just for mod logs, but for really posh looking builds.

After all RJK, have you actually done a lot of mods to yours? It looks like a fairly standard TJ07, with a lot of watercooling kit? IMO that shouldn't mark it down at all, it should defintely be in there.

Maybe each build should either have a voting method by the community to make it 'Elite' or have the mods decide? Could even have a special sig for the Elite crew so folk know you know what your talking about? :D

It would certainly allow people to easily find build logs they wanted to keep an eye on.

However, the case section isn't the biggest section on the forum, and i think splitting it up may reduce numbers too much, if you know what i mean.

I don't personally see a problem with the current system. An update to a project log will keep it on page 1 for a good week or two. I think that's plenty long enough, and it means that logs are only returned when there is actually new content. Are there really enough project logs to warrant its own section?

Having said that, either way will work.

Think it will be a lot better having them split into two personally, works well elsewhere and be good having them all in one place rather than having to trawl through a few pages to find a project that only started recently, definately got my vote :)
