Proposed new kit, comments?

lol im saying that about the AMD, i know the Intels can. :D

Ninja edit or not so ninjary. :p

I just read what you said and then clicked to quote you and it came up with the ninja edit bit. That was very fast :P But caught ya! lol

I might get me one of them just for the hell of it and maybe sell it to a friend. I have loads of friends with crappy pcs who think you need to spend 1 grand to get a good one. Could make one for 400 quid and sell it for 500 to them probably.

Ok, I thank you for your advice so far, it's very good of you to share it.

I'm not sure what else to say.

I'm sorry I did not take the advice.

Im not angry or annoyed because you dissagree with me. But angry and annoyed because of the reasons you choose so. All of us honnestly have your best intrests at heart at getting the most out of your money and getting the best pc you can possibly get. We just want to help and when we have done 100s of these we do have a good idea of whats best to get for your money.

Im sure everyone here would agree that you can buy the amd but you are only shooting your self in the foot. Im not going to argue over getting an intel with you any more. But you really will be saving your self money and getting a faster pc if you do.

If you really want amd.

Try this, but i dont know enough about amd mobos really, the mobo selection on ocuk for amd isn't very good. They seem to be phazing amd out almost. Ive seen far more in other places. I dont know what PCI-E x16 version it is. Wether its 1.0a or 1.1

:EDIT: Remeber the likes of crysis are already stating a 2.5ghz as minimum requirement. The amds arn't as easy to overclock nor do they overclock as far if you wanted to do so. It may be worth paying the extra to get the best duel core you can get if you want amd.

Thanks :) Ive never done an amd spec before lol. Btw tel999 angry was the wrong word to use. Just frustrated. I wont loss sleep if you dont go intel but i may give you evils :p hehe

:EDIT:

You could spend more on a better graphics card if you wanted if you got cash and i did just notice its an OEM card which means you need to buy the DVI connector for your monitor if you dont already have one.

Indeed, I had half an eye on Crysis etc when looking at the 6400+ chip.

What do you think about holding off on a new GPU see how prices go when the new Nvidia range comes out?

lol, and I've never done a Intel spec :D:D

As above, I'm still unsure about GPU, holding off and seeing what happens to prices seems a good idea.........

You wont see a drop in the GTXs till the new GTX comes out. But the New GTS will be quite a bit faster then the current and will overclock even better i beleive.

The current GTS already overclocks to GTX speed but lacks in streem processors to make it as fast as a GTX. The new ones will have more streem processors.

If you want to save money id get one of them and give it a lil overclock with a very easy program. No bios fiddling needed. Id expect them to be a little bit over the current GTS prices.

:EDIT:

Gee ive nver done so many ninja edits before :p

What prices are you looking at if you dont like current? I presumed your budget was inthe 700s

:EDIT again:

The new GTS should be out in a few weeks. not sure about the new GTX, probably a month and a few weeks.

To be honest, moneys not 'that' much of an object. If the 9800's turn out to be an extra £100 but worth it, i'd bite the bullet and be an early adopter :D

Its amazing how much you seem like me when i first joined the forums. I thought amd were the best, although to be fair amd were kicking intels ass just before i joined as i joined right when the core 2 duo came out. Up until then amd were the best.

I then found out about the 9800 (well we will call it that but it may not be) and thought instantly ill get that when it comes out at the price of £450 quid. But now ive come to relise that i dont need to.

I can get a GTX which will run all the games at top spec on my 19" screen and will do for a long time. Never buy a new card which has just come out straight away. its almost certain that no games will require it if youve got the previous top card and its likely to fall in price quite fast then stay level for about 6-12 months.

I can assure you its unlikely it will only be an extra £100 quid over a GTX. The gtx will probably be £200-£300 for GTX-ultra and the new card what ever its called will be near the £400s for GTS and £500s for ultra (i beleive the G80 ultra was £600 quid a birth). The prices may be a bit high but im judging on the G80 births. Which would have been a bit higher as they were the first DX10 cards.

I think i rambled a bit :p

I think i rambled a bit :p

Just a little towards the end :D:D:D

To be honest, I only know AMD really, and yes, I confess theres a little bit of 'stick with what I know' going on (though, to be fair, being called a fanboy when I'm pushing 40 :D:D:D )

I've always had AMD based, always built them, know the chips, the mobo's and chipsets.

Anyway, you guys run your best Intel systems by me again, lets see what happens (still like the shiny case though, gotta be worth an extra £36  )

Chip&HS
Mobo
Mem
Case
GPU

Spend me £850

Run it by you again?

In my spec I had the cheapest 8800 GTX you could get. It'll have the same performance as a more expensive one at the same clocks. They're all built to reference designs, even down to the HSF assembly.

The motherboard I suggested is a great value. It has both DDR2 and DDR3 slots so as to remain easy to upgrade well into the future.

The processor is just about the best you can get. They 'clock marvelously and are screaming fast.

The RAM is more than fast enough to do the job, even when the CPU's been overclocked. It's on sale this week too which might make you want to get another 2 GiB for a total of four.

The CPU cooler is excellent. It's a heatpipe-based design, as most these days are, with a 120 x 25 mm fan inside of it. The fan is replacable if you decide, down the road, that you don't like the stocker.

The Intel systems will appear to be more expensive but they are a lot more powerful. The previous specs we made were quad cores which is obiously a lot better then a duel and with up and coming games going to support quads it looks to be a very big benefit.

Secondly we added in third party heat sinks so that you can overclock a 2.4ghz quad core to up to 3.5ghz. thats a big boost in speed and will mean that your cpu will not be be the limiting factor in your pc for some time. The amd cpus are a lot cheaper but thats because they are lossing so much money to intel they have cut the prices servierly twice!

Ready for the mind blower? AMD owns ATi. ;):p

Infact how can you like amd and not ati. You do know they are now both amd? lol.

Your too slow :p
