My father has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer (he's 78) and I'm getting prompted to go for a check. I've also heard the first test is a blood one, regardless I will be getting checked.
i'm 4 years into recovering from Prostate Cancer. I was 38 when diagnosed. there is no age limit to how old or how young you are when you get it, however it's more common in older men. Youngest I knew of was 26.
yes the checkup is outside of most men's comfort zone, but before you even get to that part you normally have a blood test to measure your PSA level, if it's raised then further investigation takes place and yes you will have another man (or women) putting a finger, and a biopsy tool up your bum... but that is a really small price to pay for knowing if you have or have not got cancer of the prosate. the biopsy test has evolved somewhat since I have both of mine, now they can go in and get samples through the pelvic floor between you balls and your bum rather than trying to steal your virginity.
anyone have any questions, my email address is in blog...
Yes, I had a rectal exam a few weeks ago. Get checked out if you have any doubts. doc knows what I do for a living and must have been exacting revenge for an SP30 or something. :/
