Protect and Serve . . . yeah right !

Can't believe the police are getting stick for not being more forceful! They were high school kids they were facing - not armed gangsters. Do people really think images of cops beating the carp out of black kids (who would obviously resist) would make the situation better? All the destruction can be repaired and replaced.

Just thinking out loud, but can you possibly get a more American picture than this?

Machine gun on the roof is a bit dodgy...

rifles, sure but an area weapon, even if someone was to shoot at them from the crowd I don't think they'd be justified in using that

What ever the reason for this, if you were a black american you would be angry and afraid, when the state kills you and oppresses you there are very few courses of action, peacfull protest or violent protest.

Both can be valid.

so burning down shops is clearly the best course of action to get your revenge on the police.

No but its a response to what has been happening to black people in the US in many citys, people yet crazy in mob situations even when its starts out peacfull,

How do you suggest people voice their anger? Civic meetings dont stop bullets and nightsticks.

You honestly think a bunch of thugs taking to the street and destroying peoples business' and their own neighborhood is a valid form protest!

This, these protesters are claiming that they are the innocent victims of police brutality and unjustly targeted, then proceed to loot, destroy, and act like wild animals in the streets completely reinforcing the policing methods.

Also the rioting really helps their case world wide! Lets trash everything in sight, that will generate support and sympathy.
Idiots be idiots, we've seen it in various cities in the UK a couple of years ago.
The vast majority of people "rioting" will be bugger all to do with any protests and either out for a fight, or out to steal stuff while the police are either too busy or standing down to prevent violence escalating.

I dont think its that simple, when you have no other outlet this is what happens, personally I don't agree with burning down your own neighbourhood but i understand why people do this and it wont just be thugs and criminals.

You think they should be passive and just sit back and let this keep happening? Easy to think that when you are not the target.

You really think those people are protesting? There are people peacefully protesting, and trying to prevent violence from occurring, any looting and vandalising are doing it because they can get away with it. It doesn't invalidate the genuine cause for protest.

6 officers currently suspended whilst the investigation into the death of Freddie Gray is conducted have been charged with offenses ranging from negligent homicide, involuntary manslaughter, second degree assault and others.

No BBC or website source yet but the state attorney is going through the events and charges on the news atm.

Hope the protestors are happy now that six police officers, half of them black, are looking at death sentences following their politically motivated show-trials.

why does half of them black have anything to do with it. Also the article you posted doesn't mention anything about the officers facing a death sentence.

Regardless if Freddie Gray was black justice is needed. They killed a "young man".

This outcome should show the rest of the police officers in America that brutality will not go unchallenged.

There has been too many deaths recently that have ignited deep race issues across the states.

Isn't the narrative that it's racist white police officers killing poor black men? Any prolonged incarceration at Maryland State Penitentiary will be effectively a death sentence for a cop.

we haven't got that far yet. The capital punishment employed by some states just goes to show that it is not a deterrent for serious crimes.
