ok, so i have raided my 2 500 gig samsungs and whilst i am blissfully happy at loading windows XP fully in 12 seconds i am worried about failures, so whats the best way to monitor the raid systems health and how can i possibly easilly back up 1TB ?

The simple way is with a 1Tb external drive however that's not necessarily the best or most economic way of doing it.

You really need to think more about recovery than backups because once you determine how much data needs to be recovered how quickly then the appropriate backup method or methods become clear. There are a number of options to consider:

• Would a regular image backup be enough or do you want the ability to restore individual files?
• What is the nature of the content, can it be recovered or regenerated from somewhere else?
• Do you want the protection of off site backups?
