I need some, simple :p

I have been told by the gym instructor that I need about 225g of protein a day. What an earth contains that ammount of protein?

Is it better for me to go on supplements?

The sticky at the top of the page has loads of info, I wouldnt use suppliments alone to get your main protein intake, but they can help.

How much do you weigh? What are your goals? There's a bit of a change going in peoples views on at the moment regarding protein intake, with some saying 2g per kg of bodyweight is optimum. So a 200lb (90kg) male should be eating around 180g per day, split into 4-6 servings throughout the day.

Supplements are just that, you supplement your diet of good food with them they don't replace food. Though don't go buying stuff from high street stores you'll pay through the nose. Buy online from places like www.myprotein.co.uk

Though it depends on your goals, unless you're pretty serious you shouldn't really need anything but a good quality multi-vitamin & mineral.

I'm 11st 3lbs and I'm aiming to rise to 13st 8lbs. As you can tell, i'm not going to the gym to lose weight.

You weigh 75kg, the guy at the gym has worked out you need 3g of protein per kg of bodyweight, I'd say that's maybe a just little excessive especially if you're a beginner. I doubt your body will utilize all of such a sudden large input of protein. I'd say even as little as 150g could be enough for you to begin with so don't get too hung up on that 225g figure he gave you.

As a guide I'm 15st 7lb and I eat around 220g of protein a day and I'm bulking and growing like a weed :D Also I've been training for over 15 years now so my body is used to a high protein diet.

Thanks for replies ;) So what for breakfast & dinner can I have to give me 150g of Protein? At the moment it's a glass of apple juice and a bowl of crunchy nut. For dinner I usually have a tesco £1.80 sub roll (chicken & bacon) with a pack of beef grilled mccoys, a pink lady apple and a small bottle of evian.

My tea is usually rammed full of greens so I basically need to know what I should scrap or fit into my breakfast & lunch.

Thanks.
