Provisional License

Usually more than long enough for most to learn to drive. Why do you ask? Are you anticipating any unusual difficulties in learning? ;)

The actual license is as said, some thing like 10, once you take the theory though, you have to take the practical within 2 years, else you have to take it again (the theory).

Just my friend wanted to know how long the provisional lasted for, incase he goes to uni before taking the test.

I couldn't remember how long my old one was valid for!

10 years, at which point you can apply for a new one, but for the love of god don't.

If you can't pass in 10 years it's time to give up.

Foreign licences are valid for 1 year IIRC

I keep telling my Yank freind at work that she needs to apply for a full British Licence.. she thinks she can drive here on her Texas licence, I still cant believe she hasnt been pulled for it..

Clearly their bouncers don't do competency tests.

I noticed today that HSBC won't accept provisional driving licences as ID if you're over 18 - not sure why this is?!

* Paper - must be a full UK licence. A duplicate licence is acceptable but a provisional licence is not.
* Photocard – a duplicate licence is acceptable. A provisional licence is only acceptable for individuals aged under 18.

I'm confused - why is a provisional worth less for ID purposes?
All you do to get a full license is send off your provisional and they send it back a different colour!!
