Proxy loading pages faster than directly...

Just updated my routers firmware (Netgear WGR614v7) which seems to have helped a problem with searching for servers on steam.

But now, inexplicably, OCUK forums are incredibly slow. Doesn't seem to be any others, just OCUK :/

A traceroute ends up with the last few jumps timing out and a web proxy can load the pages in 2 seconds while trying to load them without takes at least 20. Very frequently getting "taking too long to respond" error pages too.


Any ideas on sorting this

turn it off and on a again. your router and your pc

Web proxies usually cache, so that's likely to be why it's loading quickly.
Check your dns settings, try open dns, see if that makes a difference

The firmware upgrade was done according to the manual including resetting it after the update.

I've gone back to the original and things are working fine again, I think I'll live with steam server searching being dodgy.
