PS CS5 is raping my Ram!?

Any1 finding PS Extended CS5 raping your RAM? ive used all previous versions of PS before and ever since ive installed CS5 its ramping up my RAM considerably; even when ive closed documents down none of my ram was being 'reclaimed'. For example just now im working on a 300MB document and had opened and closed others in order to take layers from it however my ram stayed at a steady 7.79GB (out of 8GB) and therefore made my PC kinda sluggish. Only after restarting PS sorted it out, with the same document open my RAM is now at 2.7GB :/

Even firing up any CS5 app takes noticably longer than CS4 too.

X64 Win 7 Pro BTW
 
I'm still on CS3. :) Interested to hear how you are finding CS5 is performing for you, features wise etc?. Sorry I can't help with your problem, sounds annoying to say the least!.
 
CS5 was supposed to really integrate utilising the VRAM on the graphics card to help with processing. I wonder if there is a driver update needed for your hardware to let it do so. It sounds like there might be a configuration issue regarding this that might help. I haven't a chance to play with CS5 yet so can't help further, but that might be something to look in to.
 
I'm using CS4 with 1gig on card and 2gig on mobo, works great.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time, tried updating your drivers or CS5?

I remember in CS4 I had to check a box to get it to use my graphics card have a look in preferences,maybe.
 
Im still running PS7 here, using CS4 on the Uni machines but isn't it possible to set RAM allocation in Photoshop?

I discussed this the other day with one of my mates after having issues with Flash MX2004 on this lappy, and he said try CS4 because of the adjustment option....just a thought :)
 
Well im running Ps cs5 on my netbook with 1gb and admittedly it does slow down but i think its more down to the cpu tbh and people on older CS i would recommend moving up...content aware,puppet fill and the new masking thingy majig are all awesome and this being my CS cant believe how easy it is to get up and running and with a bit more reading i ma sure i can do other great things.
 
thanks for the reminder on driver update. new one was just released last week so just had that installed the other day. anyhow that doesnt seem to be the issue. ive enabled OpenGL too. PS is still eating up RAM like no tomorrow. ive now made a habit of saving everything closing it down and reopening :@ for the first time ever ive heard my PC make that 'loop' sound of whatever is playing though my speakers! that only used to happen on my laptops!!!

i have also noticed that even on closing PS down it takes a few minutes - yes minutes for my ram to drop back down to the normal amount. really bizarre.

FYI CS5 does seem to work smoother and some nice tweaks here and there and to be fair ive used that content aware fill and healing brush a few times now editing graphics. Fill is a bit hit and miss tho, however it doesnt makeup for its hunger for system resources. would be nice to knw if any1 else is having the same issue (havent had time to do a proper google yet - i have read a few issues tho)....right now, from what ive been doing i cant see much benefit upgrading from CS4


BTW CS5 master collection is avialable from Adobe for download ;)
 
Didnt even realise this was out. I just had a look at the new features... wtf?! Some of the stuff theyve added to Photoshop looks like an April fools joke!

Likewise, it kinda crept up on me. I recall getting an email from Adobe saying it was coming out but didn't pay much attention to it and forgot about it at the time.

To be honest, CS3 does me fine, I can't see much in 5 that would warrant the cost of changing over. Is there a demo/trial of it available?.

Oh and one other thing - Does anyone know if you could install it and run it alongside CS3 with no issues?. I wouldn't mind giving a trial a go but only as long as it doesn't conflict with my CS3. :cool:

I have CS4 Design Premium, and have installed the trial version of CS5 Design Premium on my mac and they work side by side without issue. The only "limitation" is that you cant have both PS CS4 and PS CS5 running at the same time.
