Recently there's been a bit of speculation about some of the Playstation 2's back catalogue being released on the PSN alongside the PS1 Classics. Obviously nothing has been officially announced and this just remains hear say, rumor and speculation.
If this did come to fruition how would Sony implement it given that the emotion chip is removed from all models but the 60GB fat PS3? How would Playstation 2 games function on every other SKU? Would a software update allow this compatibility? And if it gives that ability to run PS2 games downloaded from the PSN then what's to stop someone just using their old PS2 discs in the machine seeing as it should theoretically run PS2 games? Also, do people think it would be a good move by Sony to do something like this considering that it seems mainly Disney are the only ones interested in releasing their back catalogue onto the PSN?
