can personally recommend (ie ive played each of them)

FFXII
Suikoden 5 (lots of dialogue though and slightly more ps1-ish)
Valykrie Profile 2 (seems quite innovative but battle system takes a little getting used to: imagine a cross between ff and star ocean)

Star Ocean 3 Till the end of time: This is pretty good. I played it for a while ages ago; even bought a guide to it. Battles are real time-ish.

i wont recommend

Dragon Quest VIII cursed king: unless your under 13 yrs old Because its extremely repetitive (vast areas of nothing way too much travelling and random battles) and it seems to be aimed at a young audience.

The Best one i have played (and completed) so far is

Shadow Hearts: Covenant (ie SH2)

Whats the difference between Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy XII Platinum version?

Nothing as far as I am aware. The platinum version is just another print run about 12-18 months after the original release and its sold at usually half the original RRP.

The only other version that is different is the Zodiac Job System, but that wont see release outside of Asia.

Its the same game with different box art so I dont see why it wouldnt. Its just the same game released 12-18 months later at a knocked down price.

For me, RPG gaming peaked at Secret of Mana on the SNES.
I've never played anything since that's come close to matching my enjoyment.
I just don't get on with turn-based fighting, I find it annoying.
Having said that, Parasite Eve was really good and has a sort of turn based system.

About 30hrs into FFXII now and still loving it to bits, can't wait to see what's around the corner.

Where are you? Awesome game isnt it. I've not played it for a while, I got about half way through then got a 360 and a new job....So kinda lost the plot. I think I need to start again. But as said. ITS AWESOME.

Me too to a certain extent - turn based fighting appeals to my love of strategy but can get too much on some games, especially when they generate random encounters. Not quite as far into FF12 as Inoshishi, but it really has sucked out my time so far in fun and good story telling :)

Hopefully not the yellow blob thing, anyway FF12 is one of my fav final fantasy games, the story aint the best but the whole game is great. Cant wait for FF13 and if you keep going on to me about FF12, i'll have to play it again :D
To the OP i also enjoyed the Star ocean and Kingdom Hearts games, quite a good series of games not quite up there with FF10 or 12 but still prob worth getting if you can find it cheap.

To be fair, I didn't mind it in Fallout, but I think that was because it gave me the opportunity to go for repeated groin shots :D

Start again mate its well worth it, I'm 35hrs in now (although a fair bit of that is idle time and grinding time) all six of my characters are level 23.

if i get these ps2 games and put them on the ps3 will the graphics be improved i.e. to hd quality? (upscaling or summin?)

Not really, it looks a little better but don't expect miracles.

But that isn't the point anyway in a RPD, it is Gameplay > Graphics.

A lot of games have been mentioned already but also consider getting Final Fantasy 7

Got it ages ago on US and it's superb.

If you've played other Shin Megami Tensei games like Nocturne & Digital Devil Saga then you'll love it:)
