PS2 VGA

I've used VIVO with my xbox and found it to be too laggy, there is a delay from a button press to the result on screen. It may have just been the software I was using but I tried a few and didn't have much sucess.

Also VIVO is not supported under Vista because nVidia won't release any drivers for it (I don't know what the ATI/AMD situation is with Vista).

Hmm, in that case I may avoid that then. I'm running vista, and wouldn't really want lag while playing.
So, looks like I'm going with the Gademi?

A quick google produces results, and that Gadmei TV5830 looks pretty nice. Plus, it means I can avoid needing a PC there, which is always good. It doesn't seem as good for TV signals, but I wouldn't be using those anyway.

However, can I ask you about the sound? You plug the red and while cables from the PS2 into the box, then what sort of audio output does it give? a 3.5" hole for headphones/speakers?

And thankfully my monitor is DVI and VGA, so I can have them both plugged in, and switch with the touch of a button.

Apparently the onboard sound is a bit tinny but I haven't tried it. I have a cable form my sound card to the Gadmei, and then I'm using the Line Out to connect my speakers to it.

Here is a picture of the ports on the back, the "Multimedia peripherials" port, is what the PS2 uses. The box comes with a lead the plugs into this port, and at the other end are composite cables (Red, Pink, Blue, Green and White). I just pluged the Red/White PS2 composite inputs into the Red and White on the lead, and plugged the Yellow into the Green one, it worked fine via the 'Video' source. I actually bought a new composite cable for my PS2 with all 5 outputs, but that didn't seem to work at all for some strange reason.

- Update -
The composite cables do actually work, I just didn't select the right source ¬__¬

So, you can either plug in a pair of headphones/speakers directly, or use a male/male 3.5" cable to plug into your sound cards line-in, then get the sound out like that.

You don't happen to know if it does 5.1? The PS2 can do it, as can my sound card, but would it work going through this box?

Nope. 5.1 from the PS2 needs a toslink optical digital connector. Best you'll get through this is ProLogic.

TBH I've only ever seen 5.1 from my PS2 on the GT4 opening video and when playing DVDs. The PS2 doesn't have the grunt to process Dolby Digital unlike the PS3/XBox 360.

Ah, okie. Never tried it, so it would have been more of a bonus than anything :P

Still, I'll add that Gadmei to my christmas wish list. Thanks :)

Just a little note, you need a VGA-VGA cable to connect your monitor to the Gadmei, so if you've been using DVI, make sure you pick up one of those too. Other than that, it comes with all the cables you need.

I'm pretty certain my monitor came with one. Or if not, I can use the one from my old PC.

Thanks for all your help :)
