PS3 2.6 firmware info

The update is up. :o

Is there a reason to be embarrased? lol.

edit: Just had a gander at the photo gallery. Pretty cool little bit of software. It actually new that one of my photographs that I took in WipEout HD had mountains in the background of the photographs so it automatically grouped it into "Landscape" as opposed to "High Octane Racer / OMG I'm falling off the track!!!" categories. :D

Well, this update has made all of my 'home videos' work now. I think out of my 500gig of files i've found two that don't work but they were some mental real player recordings or something.

I would like:

Clock / battery indicator reposition option;

They promised this ages ago, and is a feature that would be very useful, and take minutes to implement (imo).

Not installed the update yet, but 3.11 was one of teh few divx/xvid "types" that did not work, presumably now just about any "ripped" film "downloaded" from the internet should work.

No idea what the guy who can't play xvids is doing. 90% of my files work, I imagine this update will help with the remaining 10%

Me too. :o But it's up to the developers as to whether or not that feature is implemented. Some games already have it. Warhawk for example.

The 360 method of custom soundtracks in games (accessible from the console's own menu) won't appear on the PS3 because MS patented it. It can only be done, as you say, if developers choose to put it there, which many don't seem inclined to do. Pathetic, really.

As for the photo gallery thing, the interface is decent and it loads instantly, but I really don't see the point of it in the first place. If I'm showing people photos, it's either straight off my digital camera/phone or on my PC. Not sure why I would want or need to copy them to the PS3 too. Would much rather they focus on useful options and features than stuff like this.

I for one would much prefer to share photos with people on a large TV in the comfort of my lounge as opposed to everyone being huddled around a computer or camera.

I am not sure how MS where ever allowed to patent it - it may still be in the "pending" stage at present

All they have effectively done is patented shortcuts - which is complete bs imo, especially as the software/firmware used is completely different, the music is different and the way it would have to be implemented would be different.

MS getting away with murder imo

I suppose if you've got photo sharing enabled over the network, then it's easy enough, but I suspect the photo gallery app won't detect those. It also won't work just by having photos on a USB stick or whatever, you have to copy them over first.

I'm sure there are people that will use it, but it doesn't seem like a particularly important feature, when all said and done. People have already mentioned far simpler, more useful additions.
