PS3 80gb Backwardly Compatible???

i got my 60gb model on 15/12/07, thats a while from launch, paid 349.99

I think that I got one in oct/nov the same year with a 2 games, a blu-ray and 2 controllers for the same price. It was money well spent. Enjoy slapping photos straight on from the camera and 2 USB slots wouldn't be enough.

Yep, only those foolish enough to part with obscene amounts of money at launch has PS2-compatible systems.

That will be me then, My PS3 sits next to my SkyHD box that I got on launch day £300 and both are connected to my Pioneer 43" Plasma £2800 :(, I could have saved a lot of money if i wasn't so eager to get the latest gadgets :)

It seems crazy that people should have to buy a PS3 and a PS2. I already have a PS3, 360, Wii and Sky Box under my telly. Having to put my PS2 under the TV would make my TV stand look over cluttered and untidy. I can play my Xbox games on my 360 and Gamecube games on my Wii and emulation didn't rase the price of them consoles. I like back compatibility has it keeps my living room tidy. I think it was a stupid idea to take PS2 emulation from the PS3s.

I at to hunt down a second hand 60gb PS3 myself. I paid £275 for it but I think it was worth it. Not only can I play ps2 games on it the 60gb cosmetics make the newer PS3s look a bit cheap and naff. I just love the chrome finish. It looks lovely on my black and chrome TV stand

Also if I ever decide to put Linux on it I think the extra two USB port would really come in handy.

It's not like it's a massive difference; it's just a small bit of plastic. The current PS3s hardly look cheap and naff, best-looking of all the consoles in my opinion.

In fact, I'd probably say the US 20GB version with the black insert looks nicest, but I've enver seen it in person so it's hard to judge.

Not at all well worth the money you get what you pay for.

I don't think so. I was literally the first person on OcUK to buy a PS3 (except for the few who imported one) and I regretted it pretty much straight away. Right now, at the current pricing I'd say you still very very very barely get what you pay for - but at £425? No way Jose. You're having a laugh.

My friend has the Japanese PS3 with backwards compatibility, And I'm yet to see him struggle to play a PS2 game on it.

I'm getting a PS3 in the next few weeks, and just wondered, If i got a second hand 60gb PAL PS3, Whether I'd get the same sort of compatibility as the JAP PS3 console.

I don't want to pay too much for flawed backwards compatibility, I'd rather keep my Slim PS2 and go with a cheap 40gb if that's the case

i bought my 60gb on launch day. i knew i was paying a lot but dont people always pay through the nose on new tech. look at the price of the gtx 295! not to mention that the ps3 was the cheapest blu-ray player u could buy at the time.

im completely satisfied with my machine. both ps3 and 360 have pros and cons but i cetainly feel that my ps3 was worth it.

Agreed. If some people werent happy with what they bought then more fool them.

Dont listen to Knives hes trolling. Thread was entirely about backwards compatibility not about launch PS3 hate.... Hes attempting to de-rail the thread...theres a surprise eh

To be fair you couldn't get a blu-ray player for £425 when the PS3 was released. One of the main reasons I wasnt too bothered paying the full amount. The amount of PS2 games Ive played on it in that time as well.

I got a PS3 a few months after release, played it for like a week then it barely got turned on, soon sold it.

Much better library now though, it was dreadful back then.

Anyone know what the best tv connection is for the old PS2 ? Im currently using component on my HDTV, and it still looks down right horrible. My friend has a 60gb PS3 and the upscaled PS2 games on that look great :(.

Component is your best bet i'm afraid. There is a VGA cable you can get iirc though i've never had any experience with it so can't really give you any info on its performance.
