I'm looking to get a 2nd hand PS3 (yes previous-gen console) and hooking it up to my Dell U2412M. This takes DVI only. My PC with HDMI-out works fine with the Dell using a DVI-to-HDML converter.

Will the Playstation work with this setup? Can it auto detect the Dell's resolution of 1920x1200 or will it letter-box itself to 1080p? What about sound?

Alternatively, there is video game streaming, where you can output the console's graphics wirelessy to a PC. I've heard lots of accounts of people doing it, but how do they do it?

Cheers guys :)

For the audio you can either use the bundled RCA cable to connect to speakers, use the optical port, or get a HDMI-DVI adapter which lets you extract the audio.

The PS3 will be outputting a 720P signal the majority of the time and not 1080P, so you've got a low resolution combined with differing aspect ratios it may look a bit of a mess. Try setting your PC to output 720P to give you an idea of what it will be like.
