Sky Go/Player is unlikely to be supported on the PS3 any time soon. Ignoring the commercial side of things, from a technical viewpoint Sky are very much in the Microsoft camp. If you take their desktop implementation of Sky Go as an example, unlike the majority of the competition in the on-line media division, they utilise Silverlight technology (Microsoft) to provide their service.

This was from may last year,
The Sky Player has been a roaring success for Microsoft since launching on Xbox 360 last year - and it now appears that Sony, Nintendo et al could soon share in the triumph.

Sky's Director of On-Demand, Griff Parry, has told CVG sister site TechRadar that Sky is "in talks" to bring the Player to more games consoles".

"We are looking to extend distribution of Sky Player widely via partnerships with key players in key categories," said Parry, when asked about the potential for Sky Player on Wii and PS3.

"Games consoles is obviously one of those key categories, so what you would expect is probably true. We are engaged in talks to explore opportunities, but we are very happy in our relationship with Microsoft.

"We are absolutely not finished with Xbox and aim to make the experience richer and richer and continue innovating."

However, Parry has previously pointed out there was at least one stumbling block to getting the service to PS3.

"Currently consoles like the PlayStation 3 won't play the Sky Player because of the way we protect the content [through Microsoft's Silverlight]; so the PS3 wouldn't be able to cope with the DRM," he told TechRadar last year.

"However, I think games consoles are an interesting opportunity and it is something that we are exploring.

Parry added: "We have a relationship with PlayStation because we launched the PSP service (GoView) so I look at consoles, and there are a lot of them, and they are obviously connected to televisions and the internet.
