PS3 and the problems that come with it!

My 16 year old cousin was able to fix his PS3 that was bought in Hong Kong 2 yrs ago. The laser had stopped working and he had to open the console up and replace the laser, which cost about £50.

I personally have an original PS3 and have had no problems since I bought it not long after its launch.

Personally i would never buy anything electronic second hand as you could be buying someone elses problem, games are different as you just check the disc and your good to go but with consoles you cant exactly open them up and look inside before you buy.

It does look like the continuous play program is coming back in some form soon, but it may be that they'll only allow new machines to be part of it.
Worth keeping an eye on though.

I wouldn't buy a 2nd hand 360 i could have got a recon console elite for £40 less but i prefer a new one, PS3 on the other hand i would buy 2nd hand without any regrets.

I had my ps3 since launch day and never had a problem.Great buy really. Its backwards compatible with my old PS/PS2 games and has blu ray was a definite winner over xbox for me

It's the 360s that die all the time, YLODs especially with slims are super rare. My launch PS3 is still going strong while I've gone through several 360s.

All the scare about PS3s breaking down are totally unwarranted, completely misguided and just plain foolish especially when ignoring the white elephant in the room that is 3RROD. I'd be happy to spend hundreds on a second hand PS3 but you honestly would not see me even spending £50 on a second hand 360. No way.

The failure rates of the PS3 arn't that bad. No worse than most electronic items.

correct, the reason people hear about it when a ps3 fails is because of all the forums dedicated to ps3, if there were forums for morphy richards kettles that were as popular then you would hear about problems with those too :)
