One of my ps3 i fixed came back not ejecting disks, i have sorted that and it now takes and ejects beautifully, not it just one read discs, i have spares so i tried a drive out of my ps3 with same board it has the disc in the corner of the screen spinning but the units wont spin. it does this on both units. i also have several different blu-ray boards and one also shows the spinning logo, so i think both the drive and board both work so ive run out of ideas.
Anyone have any ideas??

IIRC the BD drive and motherboard are 'paired', you can't just swap a drive for one from a different machine. There are ways around this but I'm not sure it is a topic allowed for discussion here.

i know they are paired, but i was told that there are only a few different types, i tested a few and another one of the logic boards has the disc logo in corner of the ps3 but nether spin the disc. the other boards do nothing. i also used a working drive off my personal ps3.
i'd be interested in knowing he ways around it as i have another ps3 with a definate logic board problems, could you trust me some more info?

Have a look on PSX Scene and look in the Latest News section and look for the topic entitled "Finally Remarry BD Drives To Other Consoles". Sorry to the mods if I cant do this

The drive uses quite a strange ribbon. I thought I broke mine when I saw the lever up and the cable came out with the gold pins revealing. Until I realized the lever clips back down to clamp it. Quite fragile little things.

I was mainly stripping it all down to dust it out and fit new thermal paste. As Uncharted 2 was causing the fan to rev up a lot before this.

Why do they always skimp on thermal paste. It looked more like face cream that went past it's sell by date. Thick dried edges and rather watery centre.

Yip Xbox360/PS3 all use really crap thermal paste. When one of my consoles runs out of warranty the first thing I do is open it up and replace the thermal paste

P.S I think you jinxed me. My PS3 Slim has just stopped reading Blu-Rays. Time for a new laser for me aswell:(
