PS3 Browser

Tbh I was kinda expecting something a bit more flashy, something more impressive, but hey, lets hope you can set up your own personal background like on the PSP ^^

I have a strong feeling it will be an added feature.

Are you also by any chance thinking that they are gonna be ugprading the firmware for the PS3 from time to time, like PSP & xbox's?

I'd put good money on the fact that they are o.o

Running an interface like this on Cell is like asking a Truck driver to deliver a letter for you. Changing backgrounds... etc would be trivial to achieve, but its not worth making it too complicated.

The Console is primarily aimed at people who want to use it as a home entertainment system and so the interface has to be kept simple. Id imagine hardcore users would have an option to boot into Linux Mode and do a lot more with the System.

Whilst it looks nice, it's not as nice as I was hoping. I do REALLY like how it announces the MP3's in the bottom left, or how the video's and photo's are listed downwards, but the one thing I REALLY REALLY hated from Playstation2 is still there, that godawful menu system on video playback.

Got a question though, aint the cell suppose to be some sort of alien-technology-chip? Surely the addition of that feature should not be a big deal? (pardon me but i dont know much about techno stuff)

Possibly, i think sony intend to keep the ps3 for a long time. IMO i think it will be needed since it works as a combined unit other than a gaming console.

It would be possible, but no-one is quite sure just how powerful the 'Cell' is. I believe it runs 7 cores, one of which is constantly being used to support the OS in the background. If there's enough bandwidth available on that one core then there should be no issues at all with running a different theme.

The difference is, the 'Cell' takes a far bigger hit running the PS3 OS than the Xbox360's tri-core. Saying that, I'd be amazed if more weren't downloadable.

One thing I've love to find out, is if the PS3 will play divx/xvid etc type content, would be a fairly atractive thing for me personaly :D

I could copy the stuff over to the PS3 from the PC, power the PC down, which would, idealy make the room more quiet (the noise of pc vs ps3) and also do my insignificant bit for the enviroment on using less power ^^.

I really hope they introduce video playback of those formats :(:)

The Cell is indeed very powerful but it’s a real Pain in the A@# to program. Microsoft make it very easy for developers with great high level tools to program the Xbox so it’s a lot easier system to develop on. The Cell is more powerful but the Programmer has to do a lot more work to make the Game multi-threaded. The programmer has to decide what tasks to allocate to each of the 7 SPUs including complex Physics. Some Programmers get a buzz out of the challenge and others complain that its too much hassle.

If anyone wants an insight on Cell development have a look at Warhawk ‘Behind the Scenes’ at : http://www.us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/GMID-004/Site/default.aspx

BTW someone has already registered a domain called ps3backgrounds.com!

There are lot of PS3 interface Videos floating around on the Net you would probably find one which would show the Background menu option.

Thanks for that link man, I am definitely getting that game when it comes out, it reminds me of a game i played on ps2vwhere you have to fight as a rebel......it was based on a russion invasion or something like that.

Agree this game looks v good. Have seen the Heavenly Shadow Video yet Razur?

The interface looks a heck of a lot better than I was expecting.
I like the tabbed browsing that looks cool (ok firefox has been doing it for how ever long but still)
I just hope that it plays divx etc because thats my only annoyance with the 360 is that it cant play those formats without having the pc on and running windows media centre.
I just hope they relese some sort of decent remote for it. If not I hope my harmoney remote can work for it (heres hoping)

There are some other nice shots in that album, not only the girlies ;)

Whats this Resistance?? looks quite good, snuck past me totally, is it a PS3 game i presume??
